QT#82 - Improving the Design of a matrix visual HEAT MAP in Power BI

In this video, you'll learn some ideas for improving the standard default heatmap design.
The default formatting options applied if you use one of the standard Power BI desktop templates are ok, but in my opinion, leave room for improvement.
A heat map can be created using a Matrix visual. The main purpose of a heat map is to use a background colour to draw attention to numbers that are of interest. The background colour of each cell represents the magnitude of the number related to the row and column category values.
In this example, we are displaying open work orders by department and discipline. The purpose of this heat map visual is to understand the combinations of department and discipline which have the highest number of work orders.
In this video, I'll walk you step by step through some approaches that I like to take that can increase the readability of your heatmaps.

@@jasondavidsondata I have never done left alignment of numbers before but I think it actually works better. Thanks for the great tip. You still see the difference in length like right aligned but it is easier to read.

Hi Daran, Thanks for the comment 👍 😃 The first place I'd check is that you are using the same field in the conditional formatting rules that is displayed in your heat map cells.
