I never got into the US one, but good observation. This was supposed to show the insensitive, shallow, insecure part of being gay. The main characters are all different aspects of people we have all been at some point or at least know people like that. Even if straight. Coming out or just coming to grips with sexuality, being in love with a friend, having many partners as a way to boost confidence, realizing nothing happens when you turn 30. Ultimately I feel it shows that only you can make yourself confident and comfortable in life. It can not come from others. Now in the world of social media that is more true than ever I feel.
