Tuition is another big concern as well. Top private schools are very expensive, even with scholarships, it’s not affordable for a lot of families. You don’t want to pay your college loans for 20-30 yrs after graduation. 😢

Very informative review of the USA educaiton system!
I don't think 开心或不开心 that differentiates China’s high education system from that of USA. It is the freedom that students have in their disposal and students' other abilities required and to be demonstrated in the competitions for better schools. USA system encourages more of all around, practically adapted, independently thinking and better developed educated people.

Because scores in a few core subjects are nearly the only criteria for college and university admissions, schools and many parents tend to only focus on students' performance in their paper tests. Few days ago, the school of my 7th-grade daughter called me. They were "quite surprised" that I had chosen not to enroll her in the optional after-school program (from 4.30 pm to 6 pm), which is essentially extended classes in core subjects. They also told me that I was the only parent who opted out of this "optional" program. Well, I don't know about the other parents, I choose not to place my faith in the current education system. For a 12-year-old kid, staying at school from 7.15am to 6pm strictly following stiff (sometimes ridiculous) rules and instructions everyday seems like a crime.
I told my daughter that you go take care of your own college tuition if you want to follow your heart.

I love tennis and soccer, but I’m not made to be a professional. I’m good at understanding buildings and landscape , so I’m an Architect. I also have interest in the field, so I’m not suffering when I work. There are surgeons who are good at saving people in hospitals. I don’t have the stomach for that, so I can’t force myself on that direction

Most Americans follow US News instead of QS university rankings, which favor universities from British Commonwealth countries like the U.K., Canada, and Australia. It's hard to take a ranking that places the University of Melbourne ahead of Yale seriously, lol. Except for Oxford and Cambridge, it's easier to get into any British Commonwealth university than any of the top 20 US universities. Given the crummy state of the British economy, even Oxbridge are overrated these days and inferior to any of the Ivy League schools.

I want to know how much percent of American high school students can be admitted to college? And how can they afford such a high tuition?
@graf.seligenstadt26 күн бұрын
1. Not everybody in the USA can afford to pay high tuition. 2. One can get a student loan. 3. One may have rich parents.
