At 16:00 it's not "suggested" you move everyone first before battling. It's required. Move all ordered units first, then battle with eligible ordered units in any order the attacking player chooses.

M44 is my most played game of all time. I love it. A lot of people don’t get it and complain about the card restrictions but to me that just simulates the broken communication lines, incompetent officers etc etc. The skill is in planning several moves in advance to make the best use of the cards you have.

The Borg-system is fun. Sure it is is frustrating but it easy to fix the luck of the draw or rather "I never draw left" issue need be. We tried just allwing to pass your turn and draw two cards discarding one (either fo teh two or from your hand and draw). It convinced sceptics.

LOVE this game! I played the every scenario in the base game while I was in training, learning what we call ‘Air Force doctrine’. It is basically a history with lessons learned to develop an air superiority strategy. Each war, the ‘doctrine’ is reassessed, amended, and added to. I started to apply those same principles to my playthroughs of Memoir ‘44, and the results were remarkable. There was way less ‘luck’ than I had originally surmised, and I lot more tactics and strategy. When you realize it roughly takes 8 dice to defeat 1 infantry unit, you stop making brash and risky decisions, and start playing with the odds by taking advantage of cover and limiting the amount of risks you take and mitigating your dependency on ‘lucky’ dice rolls. On average: 8 die to kill one unit 9 dice to kill one armor unit 12 dice to kill one artillery unit You realize if you are patient, you can save your cards for a multiple turn campaign. This becomes a game of strategic hand management and well executed tactics and maneuvers. Once you learn this, it opens your mind to a whole new level of playing. I would love to see you okay more Memoir ‘44! I have been holding out hope there would be a mega Kickstarter for this time tested masterpiece.

Sam Healey! Wow, I sure miss you with the ole' gang at the Dice tower! I'm a board war gamer, but before there were any KZbin videos or channels for those of us in that niche, there was the Dice tower! I loved to watch you, Tom and Zee doing your top ten vids! Memoir 44 is my top rated "war game" of all time. USAF Dad...I'm an old Desert Storm USAF Security Forces troop, my middle son joined the Marines in 2012, so my household went from USAF to USMC. I hope and pray all is well with your child, I think I remember hearing it was your son who joined. Memoir is such a great game! 👍 I still have a player aid ⛑️ of a diagram of a firing hex and the lines of sight drawn to all hexes out to a range of, I think 5 hexes. It shows which hexes the lines of sight pass through. Originally it was made for BattleCry, but it is always a great help in Memoir games. Memoir Tactics & Strategy Guide is a great read...

Still my Favourite War Game after all these years. I'm still carrying out a project swapping out the mini's though. With 1/144 tanks on base's to represent the 3 tanks, with tanks country die for damage. Soldiers sun dropped Italeri 1/72 on bases as well. The game is amazing with all expansions. Minis not the best (hence project) wish the New flight plan came painted. Other than that, the game itself, and expansions are brilliant. I find the game plays well at 1,2, 4 players. Glad playthroughs keep popping up for this great game.

5 in 44 videos is certainly not every other. Titles that pose a question often to better on KZbin - this is Sam’s favorite - it’s not necessarily mine or everyone’s. So it’s a question we are asking.

Battle cry, the civil war version of Rich Borg's command and colors game system, was the first to be picked up by a major publisher (I believe), but was also designed by Rich.

@@BillyTheRealDeal not trying to come off as bragging, but the game designer Rich Borg is a friend. He did several games using the same system as a base. There are spaceship, samurai, napoleonic, ww1, mideavel, and other versions each with their own variations to give them the era's feel. I have often said to him how many times you gonna make the same game just to make money? (I have several of them)

@@scottrueter8134 LOL - Brag away. This is awesome. I had Battle Cry when is first appeared from Avalon Hill many moons ago. This past year I picked up a used copy on Ebay. I have been slowly painting up the minis to put on the battlefield. Such a fun game. Looking at Operation overlord M44 to get more players on the table. BUT really I need to just get Battle Cry to the table first.

Others have said it as well, but I'll chip in as well. Memoir 44 and Command&Colors is a wonderful system to simulate the chaos of a battlefield. Anyone who thinks that any game can get even close to the complexity of what happens in a single engagement in a war, has not studied it properly. Any system that doesn't take into account the footwear and locking mechanisms on ammo-boxes, the color of the soldiers pants, for instance, is already failing to come anywhere close to what decides an individual encounter in a war. So for me, it's just a question of how much "realism" do you need to give you a suspension of disbelief and a sense of enjoyment. For me - going into too many details often takes me out of that mood, because I start to think about all the things that is not being simulated.

Been waiting for this! I actually was able to aquire Memoir 44 after his top 20 video you did! Been looking for it for awhile but it motivated me to really push to find it. Got it to play with my dad since he grew up playing old school war games like Skirmish, dogfight, risk and others.

It seems there's not much strategy in this game. Otherwise Sam wouldn't loose to a complete newbie. Am I right?
@cfosburg2 жыл бұрын
At first glance it may appear that way, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is about hand management and the probability of successes with risk assessment, and practice good defensive tactics. Sam made a couple of grievous errors while playing. i.e. You should never leave 1 unit let alone multiple units in the open, that is just asking to get mowed down. Sam may have been playing lightly since it was Jesse’s first playthrough. Also, you should never just play the cards you draw, you should develop a strategy that you can execute over 2 or 3 rounds, by saving up certain cards. Hope you get a chance to play! You should try their online version.

Regardless of what everyone said .. yes, because of cards and dice, it is very luck heavy. It ain't chess. But that makes it more accessible to everyone.
