An obvious understatement but it can't be stated enough that Pink Floyd were LIGHT YEARS ahead of their time. Just a truly amazing band. The greatest of the 20th century IMO.

We had the same receiver back in the late 70's and through the 80's. The headphones it came with and the sound this thing generates is phenomenal. I was 11yo when The Wall came out and listened to it religiously on this system with the Quadraphonic HeadPhones. I miss that sound. Just looking at this receiver in your video gave me the feels! Thanks for the vid.

Quadraphonic is incredible, hearing it in real life is such an amazing experience! It makes you REdiscover songs that you already know. Goose bumps is defenetly garrantied! Thank you for your video, it's a bit like living this again. Your switchings and mixing sounds really good even in headphones. Love it!

I have just put together a Sony DA2400 surround sound amp with four Wharfdale Dovedale speakers and purchased the Dark Side of the Moon Immersion box set. The Blu-ray disc has the Alan Parsons Dark Side of the Moon 4.0 Quad mix 96khz/24bit which has just totally blown me away. It took me a while to figure out how to set up the system to reproduce the true quad sound but was so worth it and would recommend to any true Floyd fan. Was like being back at Knebworth in 75. Wish you were here Immersion box set is also in Quad and a true remarkable experience.

Old Eric from toll cross Edinburgh had an extensive library of ex studio 15ips reel to reel tape . One of which was this album , in quadraphonic, from the 70's . With a six pack of Guinness and some number 6 "ciggy" we listened to it all the way through . Twice . Through 2 amps and 2 pairs of Bose 601 speakers . It is astonishing. The footsteps run rings around you !!! He also had loads of Stones early Jass music . Much missed is Eric ..😢

Simply sensational, the *quadraphonic effect* of the audio recorded on this record!... The other day I criticized a video whose *audio track is monophonic* and the guy who posted the video was dying to punch me in the face (he just didn't hit me because he wasn't near me physically, but "virtually" via the Internet )!... He's one of those guys who have very waxy ears and can't even tell the difference between "stereophonic sound" and "monophonic sound". He should watch this video of yours, so he can be moved by these wonderful effects that I'm hearing right now!... I still have *Pink Floyd* original vinyl records, *"The Dark Side Of The Moon"* in the *"normal 2-channel stereo"* version released in 1973, and also in the *"quadraphonic"* version (with the *"SQ Quadraphonic System"* logo on the label and cover of the record) released in 1974. And the difference is unbelievable!... *Thank you so much* for posting this video!... I really *loved watching it* !...

These days, it would be far easier (and much better sound quality) to use two identical stereo integrated amps or four monoblock power amps with two preamps and four identical speakers than an old quad receiver. You would have the same source as here (four track digital). I'd be tempted to use the newer D-class amps as monoblocks to keep the cost down.

I want to buy that set but am trying to figure out how I would play it. My quad system consists of matching stereo tube amps and matching bookshelf speakers. Do I just buy a DTS capable DVD player and connect it as aux inputs? Im also very interested by real vintage Stereo separation of the 50's 60's, like the old RCA records, nothing to compare with today, over compressed and squashy monaural stereo mix. If you know how to use Haas Effect and also phase reversing, stereo Mid/Side widener and other stereo trick, you can do a real fake Dolby Surround Prologic II mix, it's work perfectly, if you respect some stereo rules.

@dandanthetaximan you can have 5.1 and 4.0 flac files but you can't burn them to CD. And most players only play it downmixed or just the front L-R. You would need a Virtual surround sound or sound sound dac to play them or burn them to a blu ray

yes YOU CAN INSTALL THIS IN YOUR CAR. Lincoln, Rolls royce and some other up brands took quadraphonic sound under their wing and in some years, around 76 to 79 , the after years of quadro, they installed quadrasonic 8track players factory wise in their luxury brands. And we all know , everyone can get a Lincoln and even a Rolls for neat money. a high change you will find a working quadro player inside, usually bypassed or not even wired in. AND YES, the Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon was normally available at the time. Ebay still comes up with one or two, not cheap stuff obviously but indeed: highly recommanded for your car high fidelity system from the late 70's . enjoy all.

I'm glad you did this demo. I have a Sansui QRX 7500a. The "a" was the designation for Sansui's upgraded quad IC chip. Your Kenwood's sound is great, comparable to the Sansui's 5500 and 7500 before the "a" chip. But, with the enhancement my rear channels VU meters are way more active and the separation is even better. Also, bass moves from front to back in certain songs. This I never experienced with my Sansui 5500 non "a". Do, if Kenwood produced an upgraded IC circuit before quad died, you may want to listen to one. I still love my Sansui QRX 5500, BUT the QRX 7500a is better. Either way, I'll never get rid of my quad, and my friends agree even after comparing Pink Floyd in Surround 5.1 they prefer the old quad mix by far.

Ho my god. I want my Kenwood quad tuner amp back. Had one back in the 70's when I was in Germany. A pair of Wharfdale Kingsdales on the front and a pair of Dovedales on the rear. A Lenco Deck with a skeleton head shell fitted with a Shure N55 cartridge tracking under 1 gram. One weekend we thought the block was empty so my beloved suggested can we try out full power in quad. The front door bell rang, it was one of the wife's from the 4th floor pleading to be let in. her husband was on duty and she on her own was so pleased we were still in. I use to play most of my stereo stuff in RM (Regular Matrix). This did a good job of providing a quad effect from stereo. That was one of the big problems with quad. There was not enough choice of media out in vinyl Quad, or it was which system do I go for due to no compliance between manufacturers. Big shame.
