Mam why you have taken x1=x2= 1/√3 why not 1 or -1

Yes you can choose either 1 or -1 then you have to normalise the eigen vector if you want (i.e. you have to make its magnitude one so you have to divide the eigen vector by its magnitude). In your case, the magnitude is √2 so the normalised eigen vector would be 1/√2, 1/√2
