A very useful educating video. I will eventually get a Whippet but as a result of the many things I have learned from you, Akubra's Stylemaster and the Selentino 'Queen' will be mine before I spend on a whippet. Given the local weather I think the Whippet won't last except to be worn only on good weather days. The Stylemaster is no in country and will be delivered this coming week.

Stay away from Stetson if you’re getting them wet, if you love Stetson and need the name, get it.otherwise..no. the Queen and the Stylemaster are worlds better. Two perfect companies with absolutely zero defective hats in all the decades I’ve sold them. Not even a single thread or blemish, nothing.

Interesting video. I collect vintage Stetson hats from the 1950s and hats had taller crowns back then. I think they look better that way. I once read that after World War II everybody started buying and driving cars instead of walking or taking public transportation. To adjust, crowns and brims became much shorter by the 1960s. We have gotten away from short stingy brims, so what makes short crowns good? Especially if it causes the issue of the crease bumping the top of your head. I like bound edges. I think they make the hat look classier, the Homburg being the extreme case. Plus if you accidentally whack a hat with a bound edge it doesn't take a nick out of the edge. But depending on the hat style I like raw edges and mode edges too. My least favorite is a folded and stitched brim. A two inch brim is too small for most men today. Frank Sinatra was a small man and the 1960s was a period when people liked very short brims, buzz cuts, pants above your ankles, and people who wore jeans were considered riff raff. I don't care for the Stetson coin accessory stitched into the hatband. Stetson never used to put unremovable advertising on the outside of their hats. How hard are they to remove? Good advice about not wearing your fine hats in the rain. They will last much longer.

I really like the indiana Jones style. Its just a sharp hat all around thats all you can really say. Its a serious cool not too business yet not taking too much away from a formal look either. I have a bomber dark brown leather jacket that looks alot like the one in the movie. I bet I could pull that off nicely now that I've lost some weight.

That Caribou Saxon looks a lot like Bogie’s hat in the Maltese Falcon, except with a different crease, very sharp looking!

Also, the way I understood it was.... The stratoliner has its ribbon and binding matching. The S.E. had contrasting ribbon on binding And the premier was the authentic open crown.

Also the shape of your Face will determine what Type of Hat looks best on you. I have a Round Face so narrow Fedoras don't look good on me like a Stratoliner, Whippet compared to the Open Premier or Open Road(Western)

Now I’m I perplexed between the Open Road 6X or the Royal Deluxe as to which one to buy. I have a Temple in mink and it feels amazing. That being the case the ORRD will feel just as amazing. Food for thought. Great video.

I don't care for the 6x quality. Lot of issues w the brim curling..and u can't steam them,steam makes it worse. Anything but the 6x will be much better. The royal deluxe is a lot easier to maintain

That’s your opinion, we have all sorts of customers… some feel better with someone in a suit, some like a guy with long hair and a tie dye t shirt, others are just looking for the best salesman they can get.

I love my black Saxon, and I agree the black looks better flipped up, but I tend to wear it down - it looks more intimidating that way, which is important in my profession - I'm a college professor 😀. IMHO a fedora = the old-time look which is what I'm always looking out for. What do you think of the new Borsalino Bogart, and will JJ's be stocking Borsalino felts this Fall? Also, will they be restocking on the Stetson classics, as I notice they're out of stock or low stock at the moment. Great video again Kevin.

Yes, we cannot get felts in summer, they start shipping end of September, so everyone is low now. Yes on the Borsalino, the bogart is not something we carry, but we sell their signature hat,called Classico, (2 3/8” brim, same shape as my Kelly green hat, but with a raw edge and whip stitch,more standard colors like taupe, black,etc) We will also have a 2” brim called the Antonio coming in, and the Verdi, the 3” brim. We generally design our own styles he go custom w them..

I have a open road in black the more I wear it the more I’m convinced that the crease is not straight front to back but Angled off center from the oval shape of the inside I’m really disappointed in Stetson right now

Yes, that’s a Stetson Saxon in caribou grey, they come with a natural brown feather, but we can get u a red one free. Looks great with a peacock blue feather too

Have you ever done a vid on 'Gun Club' hats? I have a Stetson Three Forks and was wondering what else would be a comparison. The Three Forks is a stiff felt which I'm not always a fan of; so I bought an Akubra Sydney open crown and did a teardrop on it.... but its not quite 'Gun Club. Thanks! I reside in a more rural area. Liking the Temple and Whippet in the earthy tones.

I have a Black Royal Stetson, 2.5 in brim all the way around, 3.5 in crown and a cut edge that I purchased in the late 90’s. Doing a search, it looks like Royal Stetson has a lot of sub categories, but I can’t find one that just says Royal Stetson. It also looks like the Royal categories are a bit higher in price. Any thoughts on this hat? Thanks

I'm never going to wear any of those styles of hats but it's all good info. My Rodeo King cowboy hat is 10X & it's very stiff. I got a dyed horsehair stampede string for it. I'll be the Sweetheart Of The Rodeo when I get to Utah. Just waiting for science to either defeat COVID 🦠 or devise a vaccination that can overcome all the mutations.
