Not true, pilots are there for emergencies, times when critical thinking is needed and the fact that people don’t trust machines to fly by themselves. Planes can take off and land all on their own no problem.

@@ayoutuber5956 yeah they can’t take off by themselves. We have the tech for sure but you’ll never see any airplane takeoff by itself ever unless it’s some sort of flying experiment. Most airliners can line themselves up for landing and touch down on landing by themselves but pilots always take over manual control immediately after.

Autopilot doesn’t actually do that. You turn on autopilot but you still need both people there. All it does is holds the plane’s altitude i.e. 36,000 ft.

Saying "actually" doesn't make you correct... Autopilot follows the route you set, so it steers the plane as needed. It can easily land a plane, and sometimes will. However, the pilots often choose to land manually in order to keep and refine that skill. AP can theoretically handle take offs as well, but I haven't heard of any airline that lets their AP take off. So yeah, Autopilot is MUCH more capable than you're making it out to be.

Pilots are needed in the cockpit to input and monitor the auto pilot and the systems of the airplane for any malfunctions and especially emergency situations. The planes can basically takeoff and land by themselves, but there are so many things that can go wrong and cause issues in flight, like the autopilot pitching up and stalling the plane. Not to mention it is required by the FAA to have pilots on board passenger aircraft. Also if you are in an accident would you really wanna go through it knowing that there is no one in the cockpit fighting for their lives and yours?
