Quake 4, Doom 3 and Halo 2 have similar aesthetics, mid 2000s games are nostalgic to me and I love these 3 games.

yep! I'm also reminded of Riddick and FEAR. I also replayed Prey (2006) recently and it also ran on the same id Tech 4 engine. Everything was cool imo, until Unreal 3 engine came out. While UE3 looked great with Gears of War, every other game running UE3 for the next decade pretty much shared the same aesthetic and it all felt so depressing and cheap. Always the same sepia-tone desert grungy vibe. Devoid of color. You can also see the change in the Need For Speed franchise post-Underground. I just started reinstalling 2000's games with mods and it's crazy how they still hold up. Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is still a good game.

Agreed! I played this game thru MULTIPLE times after it's release - even returned to it a couple years later because the mechanics and the game's experience were both so amazing! I wish they kept making these games, but, in retrospect - I see a lot of similarities to this engine vs the engine that Doom 2016 used! Doom >>>>> Quake Imo anyway.

I remember playing this at the beginning of my adolescence, but I was never able to progress much in the campaign. But it's interesting how, in a way, this game stayed in my memory.

Bought it when it released. Was so hyped. I beat it in one night and never ever played it again. Still have the retail discs in a cd binder, and have never reinstalled it since.

Actually, the story isn't really deep and there is little character development, the combat and action however, are absolutely amazing. Guns pack quite punch compared to doom 3 and there is also a lot more co-op and team work with other NPCs, it's great.

theres a few parts this game did well, but everything else, not so much. first, after crash landing on the planet, it does actually feel like you could die at any moment, with all the gunfire and enemys around. but the second you come back out after going inside to do a mission, everything is quiet. that just doesnt make sense. thats the only thing i can think of that this game did well.

Because they are trying to be "realistic". Sure it worked in the early 2000s but it has aged terribly. Doom 1 and 2 are prettier to look at and their graphics are much worse. Art style is much more important than "realistic" graphics. Also the game has texture issues that you need to fix yourself, it isn't too hard but it's annoying.
