watching this race and just wanted to make a non-related comment. there was a yahoo sports writer who made a post some time back. i can't remember his name so, i'll just have to identify him by his race, not that i'm racist, its just an example of how many times people just look at the obvious first look. he talked about how racist nascar is due to bubba wallace being a, and in his own words, "the token black nascar driver." what this so called reporter failed to "report" either by failing to do a thorough research or just refraining to report is that NASCAR has been actively trying to recruit from minorities for nearly a decade if not more from minorities. bubba wallace may be the only driver at the moment. what he failed to mention was that there are many minorities in nascar on pit crews and on pit crew practice teams. i remember watching a tv program where an individual went in and practiced with a Hendrick team to see what it took. the leader, a black man, had in years past, been involved with athletics of a more traditional nature. he wanted to remain in something involving athletics and never thought of a pit crew member. some one suggested it to him and eventually he went to a tryout. he told the guy doing the show he was so amazed at the physical requirements that it took to be a pit crew member. and this guy by looking at him was well built, you'd think it was or would be easy for him. he said "i was in excellent shape, i thought. what it took to do this job, any job on a pit crew took more than i was acustomed to. all your basketball, football, baseball, track and field skills don't prepare you for the full extent of what it takes to be on a pit crew. perhaps its the concept that is put forward that the only way a black can make it sports, which for many is seen as the "only way out" is thru football or basketball primarily. TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT! to prove this point, notice i said i said a "black" earlier. i din not say a black man. there is a black woman, who had aspirations of making in the more "traditional" areas of sports. she didn't get there and some one mentioned nascar. at first, "hell, no way." it wasn't what she had always been told where she could make it. finally she came to the conclusion that she would never know if she didn't try it. she began training. making it short, she has been on arca teams and, if you don't know on arca teams the tire changer has to carry not only the impact wrench but the tires they are gonna put on. she did so well that she has been invited to fill in on the xfinity series for several teams when they needed some one to fill in. now her dream is to find a regular spot on an xfinity team and work her way up to top field. as for drivers, given an enough encouragement, to explore options, the next 7, or maybe the only 8 time nascar champion, that don't sound like the "traditional" white name.

What sucks is I don't think Bubba really cares about any of that. Like he understands the significance of his race and that it makes him unique, but when you hear him talk all he really cares about is going fast and winning...like Lewis Hamilton. He doesn't want extra attention or to be given anything. But we have to put all these expectations and stereotypes on him and make him a political symbol.
@bluekrool93964 жыл бұрын
I commented on your other comment asking why it related to the Quaker State 400. Now I kinda get it? I would've expected this comment on like one of the Dega races this year or Night Martinsville. Oh and btw I'm one the few Bubba fans who doesn't like him for the boundary breaking. I like him because when he's got a good car he gets aggressive and it makes him fun to watch.

Why only 550 HP and why traction compound?
@tuddley4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why they downgraded from 850 HP to 500 HP. The traction compound creates more and better side by side racing in the corners, where before the usage of it either the low or the high line had the advantage depending on the track and banking.
