1 he was 4.5 tenths up on his previous attempt, so about 3 tenths up on ham. 2 He locked up and missed the apex by a mile, so even if he didn't touch the wall he wouldn't have gotten pole. Max meat riders are insane.

That final lap by Max was just pure pain. You cannot write this season's script. Max decided to go full send with every risk and either take a deciding pole, or crash. And then it seems the risk pays off and he is going to pull a legendary lap, and he does hit the wall on the final corner. You can't make it up. I hope he doesn't get a gearbox penalty so we get to see an rpic race fight tomorrow.

I've never felt so much adrenaline from watching Qualifying Highlights before! Max's last attempt was near surgical precision, riding at the very edge of his and the car's abilities, only to reach slightly too far at the very last corner. So many close calls on this track! I have no doubt that Sunday with have a safety car but I seriously hope the drivers make it through the race okay.

This is the highlights that got me into formula 1, and you can say I am freaking proud of it. I was the luckiest person on the planet to have encountered this qualifying session at the time I was considering getting into the racing world, as I was a car guy. Being on the edge of my seat watching these guys absolutely sending and pushing to the limit of what is physically possible was simply the best way to get introduced to the pinnacle of motorsports. His driving looked different compared to the rest all weekend, especially going into 22. His qualifying laps often look more "raw" compared to Hamilton's surgical perfection he often has. This circuit seems to emphasize it a bit more. I hope his gearbox is okay. Regardless, I think we're going to see some magic tomorrow we're not going to forget anytime soon. I don't know why, I just have a feeling that I haven't had in a long time. Lets hope this ages well and he pulls it off...

It was crazy, hair raising stuff. Such a shame that his back end just kicked out in the last corner. I don't think his gearbox will have been damaged, the contact actually seemed fairly gentle and I think those wishbones on the back are designed to buckle under load so the drive train can be saved.

That was probably the best and most action-packed Qualifying I've seen. Drivers doing flying laps after flying laps without pitting, the positions keep on changing every lap, and there was not a second when the track was quiet except for that last seconds in the last session when Max hit the wall after a scintillating run that would've crushed the lap times. That was heartbreaking to watch, even if you're not a Max fan.

Mercedes has track position but Redbull looks to be more competitive than we all thought they would be on this track. I watched the 1999 Spanish GP on VHS recorded by a friend of mine who she was a teacher (retired as of 2007 and taking care of grandkids) and yes now I can say it's utter PU on the Circuit de Catalunya... And also the European GP in the Nurburgring (the GP course, not the Nordschlife and I can't spell either)... That race was wild believe me. The reason I said this season is the best season ever, ask ESPN and compare that to 1985 to 1996 to when in 2017 and the present day when ESPN and ABC took over the rights and also ask NBCSN (rest in Peace incoming by the end of the year, channel shutdown) and NBC and also Speedvision, Speed and Fox... And compare the ratings of all this back then and now. And yeah I never been to any F1 track but make it make sense, you have viewership that was utter 💩 on F1 for years while on Bernie Ecclestone's reign of basically fuckery and now on Liberty Media (even when the Grid Girls are gone, think of this)... And Yes it's 2021 aka Lewis Hamilton vs. Max Verstappen people want to see who will take over the face of the sport when it comes to the drivers championship and also the voice of the sport and blah blah blah... F1 tv for years again was the worst I'd seen at one point in time in the US, hence ask today ABC and ESPN. That is why I can say even if I am wrong, I understand and can basically what those seasons that are talked about, because I watched the Speed channel in the US because of said TV rights. I saw on Vettle from the word go, he pressed the kers button when he was at Red Bull winning 4 drivers championships and basically smoked the field (as long he didn't crash or blow and engine) you know who will be winning.
