I want to share some copywriting advice with you today. As you may know, there are so many veteran copywriters out there with different approaches and strategies, and it can be overwhelming to decide which advice to follow. For instance, some say that personalized cold emails are the way to go, while others suggest it's all about quantity. So, how do you choose the best advice for yourself?
The answer is simple, but it applies to any kind of advice you seek in life. You should seek out people who have what you want, whether it's financial stability, physical fitness, successful relationships, or thriving business ventures. Then, take their advice. But, keep in mind that you should also consider the relative position of these people to yourself and how close they are to where you want to be.
Now, how do you qualify the advice as the correct one for you? It all comes down to having a strong sense of self-awareness. You need to know what you desire and set goals based on that. For instance, do you need millions of dollars to be happy and fulfilled, or is a salary of $80,000 enough for you?
Speaking of my personal experience, when I hit an income of $80,000 during my first year as a copywriter, I lost all my motivation to go to work because I had set my goal to be a six-figure writer. But, I realized that money wasn't my primary motivator, and I needed to rethink my goals. That's when I turned to the "Deep Work" philosophy by Cal Newport, which changed my approach to work and life.
Finally, don't be discouraged by contradictions in the advice given by veteran copywriters. Getting high-quality clients often requires a higher-quality approach, so keep that in mind. Just remember, you get what you pay for, and if something seems too easy, it may not be worth it.
