Negative, rethink what you just wrote. Its the very reason municipalities use high voltage on long runs and use transformers to lower the voltage in an effort to reduce wire costs. You trade one for the other. Think commercial distributed audio.
@ckimsey777 жыл бұрын
Negative twice, high voltage lines over distance definitely has an advantage and reason, but that has nothing to do with the water analogy in question (which is wrong). Long travels have high voltage so a low current flows to deliver the power (P=IV), low V trying to supply a small town would require ridiculously high current which would melt the wires. You raise V to lower I while delivering the same power, drastically increasing efficiency as well as its not possible at low values of V. Nice way to dance around a question with a random, unrelated comment. V is the pressure, i.e. the driving force, that pushes charges along a conductor. The very definition of Voltage relates it to an electric field, which is a vector FORCE exerted on charged species; in this case negatively charged electrons. If V is a force, moreover the driving force, then how can it be represented by the pipe size? The driving force of water is pressure obviously, which relates to electric driving force defined as voltage. Pipe size only exhibits a resistive force, it resists flow. The very words "resists flow" in the description says it all: pipe size relates to resistors. Lastly, if pressure related to resistance then explain this. What happens to flow when pressure decreases? The flow also decreases. If a force is reduced then the body being driven by the force slows and also decreases. What happens to current when resistance decreases? It INCREASES current by decreasing resistance; thus R cannot be the pressure. By definition, resistance opposes movement, not causes it. Thats like saying applying more brakes in your car (increasing "resistance" related as driving force "pressure") will increase speed (flow); brakes are the car system's resistance, so if resistance is analogous to the pressure driving the system then increasing brake would increase speed. Bottom line, electric R is nano-scale friction, where the flow of electrons are inhibited by colliding with atoms and repulsive forces pushing them away from desired direction of flow, causing energy loss as heat. Friction/resistance in no way can be represented by pressure; one causes energy loss and resists work and movement where the other stores energy and causes work or movement.

It was shutting off all the time. Went to radio shack and bought a couple of 12dc computer fans, built little fixtures for them to attach to the amp, and presto, no more shut downs. If your amp does not have that cooking circuitry, you will end up, over some small spance of time, burn up your amp. Man, you could hear my one 8in dual voice coil from down the street. in other words: parallel wiring = less ohms (more power out of amp, but stable if within amp specs), and series wiring = more ohms (less power out of amp, but more stable)
@denshi-oji4945 жыл бұрын
@@VictorEstrada Yes mostly. There is another factor to consider however, that is the damping rating of the amp. Good luck finding it, as nobody rates them that way now. It is a measurement of how stable the output on the amplifier is with varying load, (which all speakers do vary in impedance with frequency, the enclosure type and size, and even temperature!). Anyway, speakers in series also have the general ability to effect each other more than speakers in parallel. So, unless the speakers are installed exactly the same, with no differences in external influences, the speakers wired in parallel will more closely match each other in motion and sound than those wired in series. And an amplifier with a higher damping factor will also be better able to prevent excessive cone excursions at higher power.

How about the old school Memphis madd maxx 15 inch quad 1 ohm subwoofer? You have in a single sub 4 coils at 1 ohm does that make .25 ohm and 4 ohm respectively. Can you get the sub to do 2 ohm load to amps by splitting the loads to two coils per amp? Effectively making .5 ohm and 1 ohm or is it .5 and 2 ohm? I am thinking.5 and 2 but keeping it at 4 coils in one sub to a single amp make it .25 and 4 I believe. How about that brain teaser. I do believe it makes a .25 and 4 ohm load but also can you just put 1 amp per coil then keep the resistance at 1 ohm and that’s basically it?

For anyone who comes across this video today. He made things WAY more complicated than necessary. For series wiring your final ohm load is (ohm of the voice coil) x (# of voice coils) For parallel wiring your final ohm load is (ohm of the voice coil) ÷ (# of voice coils) For example, you have 2 DVC 4-ohm subs. That's 2 subs with 2 coils each, and each coil is 4-ohm. So series would be 4-ohm x 4 VCs = 16-ohm And for parallel it'd be 4-ohm ÷ 4 VCs = 1-ohm For Series/Parallel which he commented on for just a second, it's a "little" more complicated but you just calculate the series connections first and then treat each series connection as a single voice coil of it's calculated impedance and calculate the parallel connections ohms based on that. I'm not great at explaining things, but hopefully that makes sense. So 2 DVC 4-ohm subs, both voice coils on each sub are wired in series and then the subs are wired parallel to each other. So you calculate the total impedance of each sub separately (2 4-ohm VCs wired in series so 4-ohm x 2 VCs = 8-ohm). Then imagine each sub as a SVC 8-ohm sub and think if you wired them in parallel (8-ohm ÷ 2 VCs = 4-ohm). So 2 DVC 4-ohm subs wired in Series/Parallel would come out to 4-ohm at the amp.

it depends of your amplifier. for example i'm buying 10" 1500Wrms subwoofer with 2x1ohm voice coils and an amplifier that is 3050Wrms at 1 ohm (im buying other subwoofer later) the amplifier specs tell me that its 1550Wrms at 2 ohm load -> i connect my voicecoils to series to get 1+1=2ohm and now my amplifier isnt overloading my woofer. but if i bought 3000wrms subwoofer with 2x2ohm voicecoils with same amp, I would connect voicecoils parallel to get 1ohm impendance and match it with my amps 3050Wrms at 1ohm (2x1 ohm voicecoils wouldn't work because i only could put it parallel to get 0.5ohm and overload, or put it to series and get 2ohm and not have enough power.) So basically you need to look at your voicecoils and wattage and then match it with an amplifier.

I want a tight sound but not necessary low. I was told that I have to wire my existing factory amp to a dual coil sub with no more than 75w RMS or wire it so it is 8ohm. If your amps are strappable, you can strapp and wire up, series, or wire down, parrallel, depending on your subs and amps impedence, wire accordingly.

I get the speaker wiring but what about the amp. So lets say 2 channel amp. Two dvc 4ohm. Would you wire each speaker to the own channel or bridge them??
@Qualitymobilevideo5 жыл бұрын
A 2 channel amp you would just wire each subwoofer to their own channel. Bridging comes into effect with a monoblock where you bridge two subs onto one channel, or a 4 channel/5 channel where you bridge each subwoofer to two channels.

At 4:00 in series wiring if one bulb blew they would all stop. In parallel however only that load would stop but the others would still be powered.

I’m strapping amps and was wondering is 2ohm 4K watts the same as 1 ohm 4K watts or does the subs react differently as in doesn’t move as much cause of resistance or does it move the same sound the same cause it’s still 4K watts
@Qualitymobilevideo6 жыл бұрын
Well the stable impedances of the amplifier and subwoofers dictate how you can wire your specific subs and what loads you can make at the amplifier. A 1 ohm load gives you the most possible power from your gear, however you will sacrifice efficiency and the system will run hot. A 2 ohm load with be able half the output on the same amlpifier, but will be more efficient and run cooler.
@nathanielguffey8756 жыл бұрын
So basically it’s better to run 2 ohms if you have the power to run your subs that they won’t act differnt 1 ohm or 2 ohm as long as they have 4K watts

I have my two 12" Kenwoods connected to a mono block kicker amp in parallel and the first sub looks like it is getting more power than the second sub. How would I wire them so I have an equal amount of out put to both subs?
@Qualitymobilevideo5 жыл бұрын
What are the exact specs/models of the subs and amp?
@mike8140314 жыл бұрын
At 7:12 can we go a little deeper and could you explain why the parallel formula is what it is? Why exactly do they differ, other than the obvious reason they are different types of wiring
@Qualitymobilevideo4 жыл бұрын
So parallel wiring offers lower impedance possibilities, like 1 ohm, which means more power, but also less efficiency

Just a quick question, I have an underseat active pioneer sub installed and am wanting to add a separate bigger 12 inch active subwoofer, I plan to use a new wiring kit for the new sub , split the rcas at the amp end ,but the main question is can I run 2 amps with 1 remote wire, from the head unit splitting into 2 , I hope to install 2 switches up the head unit end using the remote wire split into 2 , then in theory I will run 2 remote wires to the back ,one to each amplifier, that way I can turn each amp on and off for different situations easily, does this sound like it would work OK? Or would I burn the remote wire out powering 2 amps and adding switches?

Quality Mobile Video Hi, It is B&O Sound System in Audi A3 8V -15 Channel Class D Amplifier-Out of 15 channels 2 channels are for Subwoofer (100 W+ 100W) (8ohm + 8), which is connected to a dual coil subwoofer (100+ 100). Because of too much vibration from rear parcel tray, I am planning to add one more dual coil subwoofer of Same configuration in the spare wheel. My intention is that I have to equally divide Amplifier load to 2 subwoofer Hope you understand

I doubt it but would parallel wiring work with one DVC and one SVC?
@Qualitymobilevideo4 жыл бұрын
You don't want to mix different kinds of subs in terms of specification, always try to use identical subs
@the_allamerican70574 жыл бұрын
Quality Mobile Video alright thanks. So if they’re the same specifications then I should be good. I know it’s better. But do they necessarily have to be the same bran

So 1 questions are subs louder in parallel? Becuase when i wire in series its less bassy Even tho the amp is powerrfull enough that i can easily blow the sub or ao i just need to wire in parallel and increase the bass on the amp it self ?
@Qualitymobilevideo3 жыл бұрын
Every situation is different and completely dependent on your gear. Parallel will get you a lower impedance which means more power
@joannedodie31364 жыл бұрын
When you connect the wire to positive and negative which wire would it be? Positive or negative?
@christopherwise70674 жыл бұрын
what? if you hook a positive to a negative, you tend to get a short circuit. if you have a speaker with two voice coils, and you hook a wire on one positive and run that wire to the negative of the opposite coil, (the coils are usually separated by the positive and negative of one coil being next to each other on opposite sides of the maganet.), this is starting to hook them up in series. you would then take two other wires and hook one wire to the empty positive terminal and the second wire to the empty negative terminal and hook those up accordingly at the amp. this increases the total resistance of the speaker.

If I wire in series with 2 400 watt rms DVC 4 ohm amps I can get 1 ohm or 4 ohms. Does this change my required amplifier output or will the subs still need 800 watts at least coming out of the amplifiers one channel?
@Qualitymobilevideo5 жыл бұрын
Actually with that setup it's 1 ohm parallel wiring, 4 ohm series wiring. Your amplifier dictates the power. If the amplifier does 1 ohm, and you wire them parallel, that 1 ohm rating is the power. If it does 4 ohms and you wire them in series, that 4 ohm rating is the power now.

I dont understand why I wired my set-up to 1-ohm but it rests at 1.5 ohms. I have two 4-ohm DVC subs. How do I get it to one ohm? Thx Pros!
@christopherwise70674 жыл бұрын
are each voice coil 4ohm? if so, hook those in parallel, that drops total speaker to 2ohm. then hook both speakers in parallel and that will drop total resistance to 1ohm. keep in mind, not all voice coils are created equally, each coil can have a different resistance. when the math is done it's very well possible to come to 1.5ohm. also possible your multi meter has a natural .5 resistance between the leads.

QUESTION: An answer please?! Can I get 2 two ohm dvc subs to work with one 1 ohm amp that has two speaker outputs? If so how would I need to wire them? I don't see why not as long as the mono amp has dual outputs which it does considering I've already done this set-up for one 12" dvc 2 ohm sub, (but now want to add a second sub) so if wired correctly I'd think I can with two L7 12" dvc 2 ohm subs (connect at 1 ohm to one mono 1500.1 or 2000.1 Skar amp) THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Wire each you dvcsubs in parallel that gives you 4 subs with 2 ohm each, wire the 4 subs in series to each other. That should give you 8 ohms.But I have never done this. And I may be incorrect but I think I'm right as long as you don't bridge the amp assuming all 4 subs is being connected to one class d mono amp.But I'm guessing at that .So we need to know what your gonna power said subs at 8 ohms total

@@AntDaddy1977 more like why would you want 4 subs at 8ohms total? if your amp is stable at 2 ohms, cause my 600watt rms mono class d is stable at 2ohms. why wouldn't you just run them at 2ohms? you are forcing the amp to hold back based on the resistance of you speakers. at 8 ohms on a mono channel class d, you're probably getting 60watts out of it.
