If these artists try to sell their work, they'll be infringing on whomever owns the license for Manga. People selling on Esty have been threatened will lawsuits for trying to sell their versions of Disney characters whatever medium they use. From pillowcases to puppets, they've all been told to remove them off the site. The sellers are then penalized for trying i.e. being banned from selling anything either temporarily or permanently. Honestly, unless you're giving your work away, it's not worth the hassle. These big companies can be ruthless. So, it's best if you come up with your own ideas. Basically, it's plagiarism unless of course you're prepared to buy their license which, as you can imagine, is expensive.
