This lecture is a true masterclass in quantum mechanics! I have a masters degree in mathematics and took courses in QM and QFT where the quantum HO came up all the time but not ONCE was the subtlety of domain issues mentioned which is key to understanding the true nature of the theory at hand! Further, this description of "quantisation" of classical observables is SO much clearer than anything I've seen before; I've always asked lecturers to clarify/justify WHY we are "quantising" the classical observables but never have they given such a crystal construction as demonstrated in this lecture (there is always some technical smudging - "just accept the quantisation process because it gives us workable results/examples")! Watching this lecture series has given me such a better appreciation and theoretical understanding of quantum mechanics - thank you so much to Schuller for making this available gratis! This is the best side of the internet!

1:40:47 Polynomials (Hermit or none) are NOT elements of the Schwartz space, as they do not decay faster than any reciprocal power of x. Though when multiplied by the Gaussian function they become Schwartz functions.
