Had no idea about the ~1000km gravitational radius thing. That is shockingly close. An episode (or 3) about the different types of stars would be interesting. Odd/rare star systems could be fun too.

That's not true. The way she said that was misleading. A black hole 100 million km away would definitely have effects on the Earth. In fact, it would likely either pull Earth out of the sun's orbit and fling it into interstellar space, or the Earth would begin to orbit the black hole and likely fall into it eventually. If the sun became a black hole right now, the Earth would continue to orbit it normally because the gravitational pull would be unchanged. Gravitational pull is a function of the mass of the object. There is no way that a black hole's gravity wouldn't be felt just 1000km away. I think what she meant to say, was that you would have to be within 1000km to begin to be spaghettified. But even this largely depends on the size of the black hole.

I remember that photo, I've got it on my wall. Big black hole fan 🙂 It was taken using earth bound radio telescopes from all around the world, the collaborationwas call the event horizon interferometer. Then all the Data was brought together to form a picture of the black holes shadow. It was a supermassive one in the middle of the M87 galaxy.
