Great idea, and review feedback. I hope HobbyKing take note! DIY guys could probably mod this quite easily to add the extra outlets. Would also suggest jump-leads for running off a car battery, and bigger space for using parallel batteries for longer duration, though one or more Y cables can accomplish this. Could add a solar charge controller too, to keep it topped up on sunny days... And bigger text to make labels easier to read in low light and for those of us that need glasses!

Bruce nice review. Re-engineer the ground station box so the screen mount is moved over an inch or so and it will clear the antennas. Or maybe screw on another camera mount over more to hold the screen in place.

Bruce, i think one USB is sufficient as you can use a USB splitter and give it extra power with the 5v output, in fact i would bet that is an accessory they may release.
@xjet9 жыл бұрын
+Jared Reabow (Jazza) The problem is that most USB connectors are current-limited so you may find that (depending on what limit that one has) they shut down if you try to charge several devices at once via a splitter.
@JaredReabow9 жыл бұрын
+xjet ah , but as i said, the 5v out is the plug to give your usb splitter extra extra current.
@xjet9 жыл бұрын
+Jared Reabow (Jazza) Yes, you could do that -- but then you've got another "thing" hanging off your ground station and the clutter starts to get as bad as the pole setup. Why not just put 3 USB jacks on the box and then you wouldn't need the splitter and the 5V? :-)
@JaredReabow9 жыл бұрын
+xjet because i would rather pay less and have one usb than pay over the Odds for more than 1 USB when i can litteraly spend $1 at a $ store and get the adaptor
@xjet9 жыл бұрын
+Jared Reabow (Jazza) But my point is that it would cost less than $1 to add those extra USB outputs to the ground station and then you wouldn't need to add extra cables and hubs. I'd rather pay $1 more for the ground station and have a very neat and tidy solution than to pay $1 to the $ store and end up with a mess of wires that is almost as bad as the problem this system is designed to eliminate (ie: too many wires and cables).

A severe flaw with this product as I view it is that it is not built into a hard briefcase for ease of transportation. You could incorporate most of the electronics, like the screen and sunshade for the screen into a briefcase of plastic or something similar in regards to durability, and have a few discrete holes in the briefcase for the wires between the recievers and the basestation / monitor. Then all you would need to carry is a briefcase for the basestation, a few poles to mount the recievers onto and an fpvquad and transmitter, preferably in another suitcase. Simple, practical and ready to fpv!

+FGDude agree entirely. I built mine inside a cheap but good quality ABS project box. If you hardwire/solder everything in, there's never any issues with power outputs or cables... and it can be a bit untidy if it's all inside the box.

Hi Bruce, I wonder if the designers intended for the screen to be rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise as this would place the LCD facing the same direction as the monitor, and also make the antenna placement more reasonable? I agree with all of your input though for how they missed the bar for this being worthy of a hard cash investment. For now, it's back to velcro and zip ties and tape on my ground station.

Superb review and suggestions Bruce! I have been looking at maybe getting a ground station, to get my antennas up higher, as well as a screen for others, but still haven't found quite the right thing yet ;) Like someone else said below, the first number the voltage reader displays (D) is the difference in V between the highest and lowest cell. I would really like if one came with a 5-7 Ft tripod, and the screen went up top, and then arms going out the sides, for a receiver on each, and then a tray below for everything else. Would it be possible to run two diversity receivers on this?

Looks like a decent GS, certainly makes it easier for someone getting into it. But some of us are ok with tripods/PVC poles and a wired web of battery leads, shows character and is way cheaper. To me a free night wiring up new RC components is a night well spent. I'm particularly looking forward to the Graphene battery review, I kinda ruined one of my miniquad batteries a while back so here's my chance to try something better (if these Graphene batteries actually pan out). Some reviews say they're legit but of course I wanna see what our resident New Zealander thinks of em. I did manage to catch a scene in the latest HK Weekly video that explains these packs have G10 plates armoring the pack, which explains the excessive weight, but is the armor really necessary on these packs over the standard lipoly packs?

What type of voltage step downs are inside? Going from 16v to 5v can create a lot of heat, how does it handle that considering it's a black box sitting in the sun? While you're dreaming about polishing this turd, some 3.5mm output plugs alongside the RCA jacks would be nice also.

Those are barrel connectors, not bayonet connectors; a bayonet has a rotating lock that engages with pins on the mating half (like BNC, or non edison-screw light-bulbs), and is named after the similar mounting method seen on the gun-mounted knives of the same name.
