Good vid and production. I heard 2 weeks. Same for stars and all clean up crew members? Wanting a starfish next.

Fitz Fam thanks! Any quarantine is better than no quarantine. I QT anything that's wet...fish, coral, inverts, cleanup crew, etc. It REALLY sucks to have to wait to enjoy them in the main display but is way easier then the heartache of a livestock plague wipeout. I go a month for fish since most parasites I've read have a 3 week life cycle. I recently just had a newly purchased flame angel show signs of ich. Luckily I caught it and have been treating with seachem paraguard (since flames are sensitive to copper) and seachem metroplex food additive. Looks like it did the trick but it will remain in QT for a full 30 days of good health before considering adding to my display. I also dip my corals before adding to a separate coral only 10g QT and then again before adding to the main tank. Some argue any QT is stressful to a new addition and justify skipping any QT. Others argue that at least 60 days is needed for some parasites. I think it's best to pick what works with your aquaria style and lifestyle. Just make sure you hold yourself to the protocol you decide on...no cheating! Patience is one of the hardest parts of this hobby. Happy reefing!

my peppermint shrimp died because i was too excited to put it in my tank... i honestly never take acclimation srs since my sea urchin,anemone hermit crab and corals were never really acclimated...but now ill take it srs because of that..

I float sensitive fish/shrimp and or corals, get the temp to match the tank than I use a reusable lab-grade syringe, I slowly replace 3.5% of the bag water every 2-3min till I have 50% tank water mix with 100% petstore/shipping bag water than I remove 50% of the water and repeat this again doing 4% every 5min till the bag has 50% more water. My idea is that making the PPT match slowly over the course of a hour is the most ideal, I think anything over a hour causes to much stress, plus you need to consider that saltwater holds less O2 so if your trying to drip accumulate a 7-10inch fish and the bag is not very big than your kinda suffocating the fish for the course of the accumulation. My local petstore has 10ft saltwater wasses and they don;t quite got bags big enough to fit them so buying or bringing a 5gal bucket is ideal lol but in that case i can't accumlate unless i wanna risk contamination using a shopping store bag or something that might have holes so in that scnario if its a $35 dollar fish i did not have to pay shipping on i would just wing it. however I dont buy big fish i prefer small fish that dont grow more than 5inch and I love having shrimp on display

Is there a name for the clear plastic box you have the shrimp in, the one in the bucket? I've been searching for one of these for ages but never been able to find anything like it.

Mike Swain I believe it’s called a specimen container

I wanted to see how you transferred him to the tank... and that's the one bit that wasn't shown! ):

Ai Luna I use a specimen container. It’s the clear rectangular cup they use at the fish store to hang on tank and put fish in once caught. Could use a clear glass or cup also I would think. It’s nice that the specimen container has the lip which can hang on the tank and makes acclimating it to the display tank easier. NEVER USE A NET on a shrimp. They can get parts stuck in the holes of the netting and injure them.

Do you treat your fish for disease regardless if they appear sick before adding them to your main Tank? What about corals and invertebrates?
@TheBshipp46 жыл бұрын
Luke Ortlieb I do treat new fish arrivals just before entering QT in a bucket with methylene blue and malachite green. Corals get a dip treatment or CoralRx before entering QT tank. Invertebrates never get treatment and are only put in a QT tank designated for inverts that could have never been contaminated from chemicals. All are in QT for at least a month. Longer if feasible.

Where did you get your specimen clear container?
@TheBshipp47 жыл бұрын
I think I got it from a local pet store but it can be purchased on amazon here... Lee's Convalescent Home/Specimen Container - Large www.amazon.com/dp/B0002APRLK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DZR2zbFVN2A85

Did you spray blue first then black for your background
@TheBshipp47 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure did. The blue alone was not opaque enough to block the light. By blocking the light it also aids to make the blue look uniform. I think I did two light coats of blue and three light coats of black.

what and how often did you feed the shrimp while he was in QT?
@TheBshipp46 жыл бұрын
Anthony Matthias Just someone flakes or mysid shrimp once per day.

Do u have to do a drip acclimating from store bag to quarantine and from quarantine to your main tank?
@TheBshipp47 жыл бұрын
Barez_b I do both. Definitely from bag to qt. Probably not as critical qt to tank since I use my main tank water removed during water change to complete the water changes on my quarantine but I think it’s ‘best practice.’ My goal is to minimize as much stress as possible on the specimen. Only cost a little extra time.
@goodall1bay7 жыл бұрын
Barez_. Yes. Reason is because the PH, SG, can easily shock invertebrates like snails shrimp and coral.

I kinda don't think innervates need Quarantine. sure ich can latch onto their skeletons however I don't think it happens very often, any parasites that may live within a shrimp usually you can be seen them due to shrimp have sightly see though bodies. kinda just think it makes more stress than its worth if 2 systems got different prams, more stress more likely to force a molt and maybe even more likely to kill the shrimp in a stress molt if previously it was lacking the needed iodine/calcium levels which you really never known unless you test the petstore/shipping water. this is more or less my opinion.
