Quarantine Days - Shot on Super 8 Film

To keep the creative juices flowing during the Lockdown, I decided to capture some snippets of our everyday life. Shot entirely on Super 8 film.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s somewhat inexplicable, but the images captured on film are instantly more relatable and emotional. We respond to them on a much deeper level. It’s quite fascinating!

This is brilliant. The soft lazy-afternoon quality of film (and the music) reminds me of my life as a child in the 70s while the too familiar modern themes of contagion and isolation remind me that those days are a part of history that is shrinking away from living memory like a stone falling from a great height.

How did you get to record a flat TV working without "overexposed light"? How did you get to record in those dark rooms? Did you use a lamp? Is is Brazil? Eu nao falo O Brasileiro. Yo hablo español...

Hi, I just used the camera’s light meter to expose for the tv screen. As for the darker rooms, I used the 500T cartridge, and shot wide open. My camera has an XL shutter feature which allows for a bit more light too. But in some cases, it was still too dark. I just went with it and picked the best shots in post production!

D: When you try to record a digital video with your cellphone, that kind of TV screens always look white or partly white, or with white reflexes on it... How did you get that cartridge? Are they being made again? Interesting... Well, the dark rooms seem actually great. A cellphone can't do anything in such a kind of situations. xD How much did you spend to reveal the pictures on the cartridge?

@@Xicohtencatl_Xayacate yeah you can still buy fresh Kodak Super 8 film, just look it up online! It’s not cheap though, and neither is developing and scanning… but it’s worth it!

@@franciscopcoutinho really nice shots and composition with the music, Franscisco! The iso is very sensitiv with 250/500 for outside shootings. Did you use an high f-stop aperture and ND-filters?

@@anyuisbjoern nop, no filters. I’d just switch between the two cartridges depending on the light. If it was really bright, I’d use the lower sensitive film, and vice versa. Sadly, for some of the indoor shots, not even the ISO500 film was sensitive enough! Glad you enjoyed it!
