Burning of country both in National Parks and Nature Reserves is conducted every year in the south-west of Western Australia by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. Quarram Nature Reserve is a wilderness close to the Southern Ocean and the area burnt within this reserve is over 1000 ha in size consisting of Dune vegetation. All around the world management of dune landscapes are focussed on stabilising these dunes. In Western Australia they are treated very differently: they are denuded!
