This game always makes me so angry when I watch it, but at least USA won. If Brazil won, I'm not sure what I would do with myself... Really, the only goal that should've counted for Brazil was the own goal. The PK was fine the first time, it was a great save, and their second goal was clearly offsides. Le Peilbet being fouled in the box definitely should have been included .Besides starting heated arguments, this video shows some of the serious problems in soccer rules and officiating that have never been resolved. 10 years later, and we still don't know why the penalty kick was retaken, or why the yellow card was given. Why can't soccer referees give hand signals that clearly indicate what kind of infraction supposedly occurred? There was also just plain bad judgement, like the case of the intentional hand ball that merited a second yellow (or even red) card. The rule about the GK leaving the line before the PK is way too weak. The Brazilian GK was only "punished" once when her cheating allowed her to block Boxx's first attempt. All of her other infractions somehow didn't matter because she failed to stop the kicks. A serious rule would not only automatically award a goal each time, but yellow and red cards should be issued on the first and second offenses.

This is when the USA has their best roster. The final that year was rough... but we came back in 2015 & 2019 for the win. It's a shame how Rapinoe went from this- a hero, to becoming obsessed with her outside activism which essentially ruined her legacy. 2023 was a pure embarrassment for the USA due to Rapinoe. Hopefully they'll manage to come back now that the poison is gone.

The comments below a heart felt and honest and agree with them. What I do not agree with is the claim that this was a great game and that the US played great soccer. In fact, our playing sucked for the most part. Without Solo this would have been a disaster. Carly Lloyd hasn't learned a thing about accuracy when shooting on goal. My comment here is in a game that occurred 10 years ago. She still can't find the goal most of the time, not withstanding that in between she has played well and got some goals. She could have had 4 times as many because her accuracy according to the experts is 20% which is unbecoming a national soccer star.
