The chartered planes of professional teams nowadays are more comfortable than most of our own beds. And each player gets his own room at a 5-star hotel when they travel. Along with mandatory per diem money. Nowadays, almost all of the players get their own rooms even during training camp. From the 1950s through the 1990s it was completely different.

The teams have their own plane that they take to the game and they return home the same day. Only time they stay over night is when they go overseas or to the Super Bowl.

In rare cases, a team may stay in a general area for 2 weeks. Like if they are on the East coast and have 2 road games on Sunday and the following Thursday in the West. There is a 3-hour time difference- you will see on this series the clock for the next game can start ticking as soon as a game is over, especially if someone is trying to heal up. Denver is at high altitude, teams who have to play there usually get in, play the game and get out before the effects hit. Occasionally a team may spend some extra time there to get acclimated, but usually they just bring extra oxygen tanks for the sidelines.

Has it changed ? Traditionally teams fly out on Saturday. Spend one night in a hotel then fly back right after the game on Sunday. The same in college, fly Friday afternoon, play Saturday .
