Күн бұрын

When we get access to metal detect the yard of a 300 year old house the anticipation is always sky high. People lived in the home continuously since before the United States was even a country and they most likely lost, dropped, or buried thins all along that timeline. We started off last week in the side yard and already dug a ton of old coins as far back as 1724 and some really cool relics almost just as old! Well this week we nudge our way even closer to the home and not only do our finds increase, but we hit a few crazy spills that gave us goosebumps thinking of the little girl so long ago that probably lost cried after losing this special item!

My family bought a good amount of farm land and there's a creek that runs through it. There are remains of an old mill of some sort that still has pillars sticking out of the creek. I'm really hoping i can find more information on it soon. I've detected around it a couple times and haven't found anything yet. Apparently our neighbor (an elderly fellow) had pictures of the area (and mill) that he donated to the historical society in the town near me, so i need to go check that lead out. If i find anything cool I'll try to update this

Those larger Crotal bells were often used on a carriage. Especially during the Rev War when they were discretely moving wagons back in to camp at night to let the militia know they weren't British and not to ambush them. The very first Crotal bell I found has an S on it and a N on the other half. I researched that maker marl to a forge in NY circa 1800. Crotals made for different tone have a curve angle on top with a tone number. Earlier Crotals designed for livestock are straight across the top without a tone number. On later Crotal bells made for sleighs that tied on to leather straps some earlier ones were tied up to a thin wooden piece. When they pulled a strap the board pulled and the Crotal bells rang. But that pulling motion with that one sided rounded off top allowed the bell to swing in one direction like a pivot and it rang when pulled so they weren't all rattling in the breeze non stop. Don't ask me which archive I found that in but I could make an example on a board and it's easier to see how it works so well. Great video as usual guys
