Those Roaring 20’s! - Metal Detecting a Depression Era House for Old Coins, Silver, & Relics

Күн бұрын

As cool as metal detecting for Colonial era stuff can be, its nice to mix in locations that will produce finds from the 1800's and early 1900's too. Being able to dig up things throughout our country's history is exciting regardless of the era its from. So this week we get permission to a 1924 house that just looked absolutely stunning from the road. A large lot of mostly grass and some enormous trees which always great signs for detecting. The homeowners were incredibly friendly as Doug, Rich, and I searched all day and found some fantastic pieces. So much so, that I had to break this video in half with part 2 coming next week so I can finish editing all the cool clips of stuff! Relics, coins, silver, and even gold! Oh c'mon, this is gonna be some fun!

The bulb is an automotive front running/turn signal bulb an 1157a the "a" being for amber. i think the chrome bell is for a bicycle the slot in the side was for the lever dinger. Dougs on fire again, nice bunch of coins and that quarter was awesome.! Great show.

Good call on that being an automotive bulb. I’m not sure why I thought it was a decoration bulb. We were there the day before Halloween so I guess I was feeling festive. 🙂

100yr old dumps lol. I thought to myself, come to my yard lol. It’s a late 1800’s home but was built where the old Hocking Canal ran through Logan Ohio. The French settled our County in the 16-1700’s and the land our homes are built on was actually covered in water and the house boats and such were all up our road. Anyways I got discouraged because of the newer stuff but slowed my swing last night and immediately found wheats, marbles, dimes, and my very first and only MUSKET BALL!!!

I just wanted to add to the whole hunting older places thing , NEVER OVERLOOK houses that have been built in the 50s or 60s even 70s !!! People always have currency on them much older than the current , my good friend just started out and lives in a 1959 home and on his first time in his yard he found a handful of wheaties and a 46 rosie !! 40s and 50s homes contain lots of silver coins I promise you that 😊

Doug’s piece was a quilting/hem guide for a sewing machine. It attaches on a sewing machine bed with a screw and slides to the width they want to keep. Maybe the original sewist sewed a suspender on with it 😉😉.

I'm from northern WI so nothing colonial here..the French Voyageurs were through here so that would be the golden grail,or native american copper culture might be possible but after 25 years of digging none of that stuff for me...but I do like the victorian era stufff..thats my colonial..so your video is right up my alley..literally

The dates on Standing Liberty Quarters were placed on a recessed pedestal starting in 1925. Those dates post 1924 did not wear off like the earlier ones made in 1916-1924. 1925-1930 quarters are a lot cheaper in nice grades due to that. Just a lot more of them with readable dates. I know when I was young. You got them often in change with the dates worn totally off. Those were mostly those earlier quarters in that series. Same way with Buffalo Nickels. You got them all the time in change with no date.
