Jacob would go on to win an GRAMMY for a jazz arrangement of the Flintstones theme with a (not an exaggeration) *blistering* melodica solo. That's real. Look it up. At this point, getting on stage with Jacob Collier with a melodica takes balls of it's own

They are incredible musicians... top world level quality and ability. But they never "jump in". You think it's like that, but they do have reharsals :)
@Marius1988Roma
@Marius1988Roma 6 жыл бұрын
In this case anyway, Jacob "only" makes an improvisation so they are very, very connected as you said!
@justabeard3794
@justabeard3794 2 жыл бұрын
@@Marius1988Roma They probably usually rehearse alone without the guest soloists they may invite, mostly because the only part where guests play is the improv solo sections. In this case because Jacob sat in with them for the rest of the song, I imagine they did rehearse with him, but most of their other guests have literally just "jumped in." Chris Potter has some pretty obvious giveaway moments on video where he clearly doesn't know the song form but figures it out live in a couple seconds. Happens in both Lingus (Cheltenham jazz fest 2017) and Shofukan (GroundUP music festival 2020). Also seems the same way when they invite Hamilton de Holanda on Lingus, who appears to know the song from popularity but not have any experience actually performing it. He also adapts to all the details very quickly though since they're all pros
