What marvellous actors ( and actresses ! ) British film had in those days. Technique acquired after years in Rep. No repertory theatre today . It shows...! !

I looked this one up recently because I’ve just self-published a book of poetry myself recently. I would rather have objective comments about it from people I don’t know than superficial ones from people I do! The reaction the Colonel has about his wife’s poetry is exactly what I fear I’ll get from friends and family. No wonder she didn’t tell her own husband that she’d written poetry! ( particularly if it’s racy ) Poetry often reveals the side of a person that their closest acquaintances wouldn’t have an inkling of!

Well done you! I think poetry is particularly difficult because your friends and family wouldn’t necessarily get it. It’s not like a pot boiler novel or something where it’s very accessible and there’s no deeper meaning for them to utterly miss. I’m a professional artist and, despite the fact that I’m very well respected in my field with plenty of devoted collectors, my family still refer to my work as though it’s a little hobby!

I love the reference to Sapho. I wonder how many people understood the implication of the reference, especially when this was released in 1948.

Sappho. Was a Greek women. She wrote poetry and lyric. She wrote about 10.000 lines of poetry whilst living on the island of lesbos. But less then ten percent of her works survive. She lived about 2.600 years ago. ❤️❤️👌👌🏴🏴🏴
