If your looking for a nice smooth ride on this bike I run mine in user mode and have it set to max power, max traction control, minimum engine brake, and lowest gear change. Its basically rain mode but with the power being there when you need it. Good gas mileage too because of the fast shifts during acceleration.

@@QuasiMotard Have fun. Those are my cruise around settings when im not looking to get into any trouble ;) . If I plan on going fast I just go into sport mode. If you don't mind having to be a little more active with manually upshifting, sport mode is a lot of fun.

I really love watching your video, it's so relaxing and very calm. You're not the typical bike reviewer/rider here in KZbin who always want to prove that their balls are big. We do have the same riding style, relax and wanna enjoy being outdoor. I hope you never fed up sharing your adventure, thank you and ride safe.

Thanks for the feedback, Albert! I've done all of the go-fast crap that I needed in my younger days. I still have the speed gene and the need to twist the wrist, but I try to do that in more secure settings like race tracks or back roads. I don't condone hooligan riding or stunting on the streets, so I try not to promote that in my videos. That's not to say I don't ride/drive fast... I'm not a choir boy or a hypocrite... I'll visit the century club at least a few times per week. I prefer to ride slower and enjoy the scenery these days. If I don't need to get somewhere fast or on a deadline, then I'll take my smaller motorcycles or scooters every time. It's more entertaining to ride the small bikes, IMHO... I enjoy the minimalist challenge and the simplicity of the ride. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Man I want one of these so bad and I have a grom but need something a little faster for highways and such👍 always loved the way Honda does bikes had a pcx125 and a 2014 interceptor 800👍👍

Why don't you ride it ever in the manual mode and use the paddle shift on the left for low speed cruising? This way it would not jump back and forth?

My first few Rebel 1100 DCT videos were recorded during the break-in period. Honda recommends that you ride conservatively during the first 300 miles for proper engine break-in. I rode it in "standard" mode most of that time, and I tried to avoid full-throttle abuse (that was difficult). Now that it's out of the break-in period, I'll be riding it a little more flexible... more in "manual" and "sport" mode to find the best of both worlds. I'm also planning to do a few DCT performance and review videos to compare shift points for passing and full-throttle downshift speeds. Those should be interesting to see. Cheers! 👍 --QM

@@rogerwilliams2629 LOL... no worries! The Rebel 1100 handles quite well for a cruiser. The cornering angle is very good and then handling is more like a standard/naked bike than a cruiser... it doesn't tend to drag hard parts unless you really try to ride it like a sport bike. The only shortfall is the rear suspension compliance being too harsh for my preferences. I've adjusted the rear spring preload to minimize the bottoming-out, and that has helped tremendously. Otherwise, the Rebel is very smooth on the highway and it handles road grooves and crappy roads surprisingly well. It's also very stable in cross winds due to the relatively heavy weight (~510 pounds) and the lack of large plastic panels & fairings to give the wind something to push against. I will be installing a mid-sized windscreen on it and taking it out for some roadtrips & motocamping very soon! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Noticed you have taken the stickers off of your gas tank what was your process?

The stickers are easy to remove while they are new (not dried out or sun-baked). I use plastic "spudgers" that are used for plastic trim removal and vinyl wrap smoothing, but you can do the same thing with a plastic credit card. Just use the edge of the credit card to lift up a corner of the sticker(s) and then peel them off with your fingers. It helps to hold the credit card at a very shallow angle to scrape across the edge of the stickers to lift it up easier. If any adhesive residue is left behind, then you can use WD-40 or GooGone to dissolve that easily. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Howdy, Boyd! That's the AirHawk Cruiser Large: amzn.to/3Ll1Dod . I have a couple of these that I swap around on my different bikes and scoots. They just strap around the original seat... only 1 minute to put on and 10 seconds to take off. I couldn't have done several of my recent cross-country rides without the AirHawk, that's a certainty! 😉👍 --QM

Are you asking about the video equipment for my live streams, or this gear in this particular ride video? My normal helmet camera that I use for these vlogs is a GoPro Hero 7 Black. My live stream camera varies, but it's usually a GoPro Hero 8 Black connected to an Elgato CamLink 4K capture card that feeds into my editing/streaming station. Nope... you must not be from the USA! 😉 That is a common and recommended practice (taught in MSF courses and listed in the course curriculum) here in the States. Our cagers are very careless and not trained to look for motorcyclists, so smart riders ALWAYS ride with their high beams on during the daytime. We dip to low beams at dusk and dark to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. --QM

The Air Hawk is doing very well so far! I haven't done any LONG rides yet, but I was in the saddle for about 2 hours on this ride. I'm expecting my Honda accessory seat to arrive later this week, so I'll be sure to do a comparison video ASAP. Cheers! 👍 --QM

How tall are you? I'm 5'10" and worry having my legs at almost 90° will kill my bad knee. I've day on them but still worry about long rides. It's it still a comfortable ride?

I'm about 5' 7" with a 29-30" inseam. You should fit ok on the Rebel 1100, but the leg position can be tiring for longer rides. The footpeg and tank position force your legs outward, so hip flexor can take a beating after a few hours. I plan to install a footpeg relocation kit (forward controls) and some small floorboards to give me some flexibility on foot placement. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I haven't torn into my bike yet to see if anything is loose. However, several other Rebel 1100 owners have replied to me advising that their tanks are also loose (maybe not quite as loose as mine). So, it appears to be a design intention by Honda... maybe to avoid shaking the tank and causing agitation of the fuel? I'll keep everyone updated on what I find out. 👍 --QM

The Rebel 1100 is a powerful and somewhat heavy bike for a true beginner, but it shouldn't be too daunting for someone with a bit of riding experience. The motor has LOTS of torque, so it can be a bit intimidating if you grab too much throttle. Setting the bike in "rain" or "custom" ride mode with reduced engine power does help with the throttle response. The overall HP doesn't change much, but the throttle map makes the engine more tractable, and the traction control intervenes more aggressively. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Product links for the CRG mirrors and bar-end adapters are in that video description. The center mirror that I have in my later videos is the RiderScan Blindspot Mirror: amzn.to/3nJjXLp . It really helps situational awareness in traffic. There is a learning curve to using it properly because the image is distorted by the mirror's convex shape, but it becomes second nature after a few hours of riding. It's very rare for me to be caught off-guard with a cager hiding in my blind spot while I'm riding with one of these mirrors. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Check if your kick stand switch or rear brake switch are stuck. They inhibit cruise on the FJR

I wondered about this also after it happened to me, but you should still be able to turn cruise on (but not engage) if your foot happens to be a little on the brake.

The bar end mirrors completely changes the look and feel of the rebel. In a good way. I know they're probably on back order, but the oem honda visor looks niiice. I find that sometimes the bigger the visor, it creates helmet buffering on the sides. I think i would need the bar risers. I have chronic back pain and leaning down causes havoc on me. Curious to see how that seat you're going to get works out. Thanks for my daily fix with the lengthy video. Watching the snow melt sloooowly. Lol😆😀🏍👍

@@QuasiMotard The streak is over! After 153 days,finally got out today, went for couple hrs. Temp got to 17c (62f). Main roads were in good shape. Side roads still have some sand. I feel much better. Apparently we're getting a snow storm this weekend lol

Those are the CRG Hindsight LS (lane-splitter) mirrors. You can find the installation video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2ilmJqvasmcl68 , and the product links are in the video description. I used a handful of stainless-steel flat washers as spacers behind the OEM bar weights to mount the CRG mirrors. It took a bit of trial and error, but they've been absolutely rock solid for 2+ years and 10K+ miles. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I was looking into the rebel for a beginner bike. Seems like a nice ride. I'm not sure if it would fit me comfortable. I'm 5'11. Great video.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure how taller riders will find the ergonomics on the Rebel 1100. I've had a few comments from taller riders (6'2" ish) that said it was too cramped. I'm sure that the aftermarket will have upgrades for the footpegs and extended "forward controls" to stretch out the legs a bit. I'm 5'7" and 170 pounds... I'm reasonably comfortable on my Rebel, but I will be adding some setback handlebar risers to give me another inch or so of reach to the bars (not leaned forward so far). My knee and hip position is good, but adding highway pegs or some floorboards might be an option for more leg/foot flexibility. A windscreen is also a must for my long highway rides... the seating position puts a lot of wind pressure on my chest at 70 MPH. Good luck shopping, and getting in to motorcycling! Cheers! 👍 --QM

The microphone is one from an old Cardo Scala G9 kit that was left over from an upgrade; that is plugged into the camera via the GoPro audio adapter. I've done some slow u-turns and figure-8's with it to get acclimated to the DCT. I'm no expert with the DCT yet, but I've found that it helps to drag the rear brake slightly to maintain steady power with the throttle. The DCT can make slow maneuvers a little tricky when it clutches unexpectedly, but I'm not bothered by it too much. I'll try to make a few videos about low-speed maneuvers, but you should check out Kevin Morris's channel, "MCrider" ( @kevinmorris22 , kzbin.info ) for some expert guidance. He has a good review video here about his Gold Wing's DCT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIConqaInM6XrK8 . The Gold Wing is obviously a different animal because of its size and weight, but the points that he mentions about the DCT are on-topic for the Rebel DCT. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Cannot really call it a "glitch" once you've changed parts from OEM, since it could be your mods that cause the glitch, right?

This bike was 100% stock with no mechanical or electronic changes when I recorded this video. The cruise control glitch became a well-known issue with these bikes, and it was caused by the rear brake switch "floating" under moderate pedal pressure (rapid on/off state, more than 10 events in 2 seconds). The ECU read that as an error condition and completely disabled the cruise control until the system was reset (power off/on). Honda was advised of the problem and didn't have any resolution other than adjusting the brake switch to prevent the switch float. --QM

That's a tough question... it really depends on your riding or commuting chores. If you spend a lot of time in stop-and-go traffic, then the Ryker is hard to beat because there is no balancing, clutch-slipping, or shifting gears. However, if you spend more time moving at decent speeds, the Rebel 1100 definitely rides better and returns better fuel economy (the Ryker is a pig at ~29-30 MPG, while the Rebel 1100 gets ~42-46 MPG). 👍 --QM

I wouldn't say that a windscreen is absolutely necessary, but it depends on your riding habits. The wind pressure on your chest is very tiring at freeway speeds... you're fighting just to hang on above 70 MPH. Even a small windscreen will break up the wind pressure across your chest, so the ride (particularly long rides) will be more enjoyable. 👍 --QM

You need to ride sport 2 or 3, better still manuel. Great sound, love the bike

The Rebel DCT doesn't have all of the ride modes that the AT has (e.g., Sport 2/3). The "custom" mode lets us set several of the paramaters independently, but there is only one custom preset. Manual mode isn't bad, but that's really defeating the purpose of the DCT. There is still a significant lag when using the manual shift mode, and you can't control the clutch siip. It's better to get the manual/standard version if that's your preference. --QM

Sorry, I guess I don't understand the point you're making. The Rebel 1100 only has one factory "sport" setting. We can adjust the singular "custom" mode for different throttle response, traction control, engine braking, and DCT shift settings. So, we have a total of 4 ride modes on the Rebel DCT: sport, standard, rain, and custom. --QM

@@QuasiMotard mirrors that are above the handle bars can be seen better than bar end bars. Good example I’d function over appearance People put bar ends on for appearance and ignore that they reduce vision

@@Darkrider8500 That's a valid point, but the net effectiveness of bar-end mirrors really depends on their angle of incidence vs. the stock mirrors. For example, the OEM mirrors on my Honda Super Cub were nearly useless because their placement was too narrow and they only provided a clear view of my own torso and shoulders. Trying to use them was actually a safety hazard due to the constant shifting of arm and body position to see threats in the mirrors... too much time lost focusing rearward instead of forward and to the periphery. I replaced them with the CRG LS mirrors, which moved them out to the edges of the bike and resolved the visibility problem. These CRG mirrors (same units are installed on my Rebel) have optically-correct parabolic glass which provide a much wider field of view than OEM mirrors. The Rebel's bars are high enough relative to my eyeline, so these mirrors are still within my peripheral view. Increased visibility over the OEM mirrors was my goal, and these serve me very well in Houston's dense traffic. --QM

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Any issue with the front single disc brake? Is it sufficient so far?

The front brake is plenty strong to stop the bike, and it modulates well. However, the lever is a bit mushy/squishy for my preferences. I will probably upgrade the front brake line to a stainless-braided line sometime in the future to see if I can firm-up the feel at the lever. Cheers! 👍 --QM

The front disc is enough but I feel the rear brake could a been better executed. However both are really good at stopping when needed. The bikes overall weight is what allows Honda to get away with the single disc brake on the front for sure
