My son added the Luggage Rack and Windshield to his Navi, Total cost $2700. It holds 50mph/80kph sitting up, flat ground. 45mph uphill, 54mph downhill. Super easy to ride! Great for running around the farm, small runs to convenience store, etc. Trunk is like having saddlebags w/o the extra width! US model got a combination, front/rear brake pedal, Gas gauge, parking brake.

Getting one next summer, need a replacement for my CB300R that died in my crash last october 🤣 Miss the Grom and don't want a clutch on my next bike. I have an left hand injury from work, during heavy traffic my hand numbs up and sometimes hurts after a full day of riding. Just need a fun, low cost commuter bike.

The bump in your tire is a result of the bike sitting idle on a cold ground (concrete) for a few days. Usually, it will remedy itself after the tire heats up from being driven. Otherwise, Honda is dropping the ball with very cheap tires.

I predict the Navi will be purchased by a lot of people because of its low price point.. Only to put hundreds of dollars in it to make it perform.. My NAVI has been burning through fuel very quickly. The distance to empty has only been 68 miles so far. The difference between 1/2 tank and sucking fumes on reserve can happen in as little as 10-12 miles. My commutes are usually 45-50 miles/day, so that means I could need to stop for fuel twice in a single day. Learning the limits of the equipment is a critical factor for moto-commuting. Stopping every 35-45 miles for fuel just isn't an option during my daily schedule. --QM

The NAVI is definitely thirsty right now. I'm hoping that a carburetor adjustment will make it a bit more thrifty on fuel. I will be mounting a tool tube and a 1L fuel bottle on my bike very soon. I already ran it of fuel and had to push it 1 mile to a fuel station just a few days ago. It ran dry at 68 miles, so that tank averaged 73 MPG. Not spectacular. If I decide to take long road trips on the NAVI, then I will remove the lower storage box and install a 4-gallon fuel cell in its place. That should be me plenty of range! 😉👍 --QM

I'm hoping that it will loosen up and get better after the first service and a carburetor checkup. I'm refraining from tinkering too much with the carb right now because I want it to be done on the warranty card... no chance of Honda kicking it back saying that I damaged something. I know you don't own the ADV 150 but you have some experience with it. If price was not a concern, would you recommend the Super Cub, Trail 125, PCX 150 or ADV 150? Looking to get my first bike in over 40 years just to putter around back roads and suburbia. The idea of riding off road appeals to me but I'm not sure where I'd do that. I had a Honda 50 in the early 70's and spent a lot of time on my uncle's trail 90 so the Super Cub and Trail 125 are sentimental favorites, but I think I'd need the power of the PCX 150 or ADV 150 being a larger guy (250 lbs). Wish Honda offered a little larger scooter, like a 200-300 cc, in the U.S.

As @Excelsior mentioned, the ADV150 is probably the best bet if you want a smooth ride and the ability to do a little bit of "soft roading" (e.g., grass, gravel, etc). The Trail 125 will handle the off-road chores better, but they are hard to find and the engine is a bit underpowered for longer road duties. I haven't ridden the new 2022 PCX150 yet so I can't give an opinions there. The new 4V motor should be a nice kick in power compared to the older 2V design. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

That's a good question! I mentioned that option in one of my early Navi commute vlogs. The Navi's little 16mm carburetor can probably be replaced with something that meters better... maybe something from one of the 110-125cc dirt bikes (CRF110, CRF125, etc). Otherwise, I'm sure there are a bunch of aftermarket carbs that would fit and could be re-jetted for the Navi. 😉👍 --QM

Does it look like it's running lean or rich? Wonder if the issues arise from EPA requirements. If it's running so lean to the point of misfire, don't they take that into account in their original testing? I'd think hydrocarbons from misfire would be a factor.

Hey sir your videos have been helpful. I'm new to bikes and looking to get one for recreation looking to get a scooter or mini moto to learn , Wich of Honda line up would you recommend going to use around town and dirt trials mostly desert landscape the Ct125 is high on my list but very hard to find what do you think about the monkey ,grom ,navi ,or adv 150
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! If your primary focus is dirt and minor off-road, then the CT125 is probably your best option of the bikes/scooters that you mentioned. I don't recommend scooters for general off-road use because of their handling characteristics (e.g., heavy rear-end due to the engine/swingarm combo, relatively short suspension travel, small diameter wheels, lots of plastics to scrape or break, etc). The NAVI is essentially a scooter that thinks it's a motorcycle, so it really fits into the scooter category. Its narrow tires and short suspension won't allow you to do much off-road with any level of comfort or confidence. Perhaps if you changed the tires to knobbies, then it might do OK as a "soft-roader" (e.g., grass and gravel trails, fire roads, etc). Similarly, the Grom and Monkey might fare OK as soft-roaders, but they have limited ground clearance and small-ish wheels. Better choices would be the Honda CT125, Yamaha TW200, Yamaha XT250. Large diameter wheels give definite advantages for off-road riding, so I would recommend a small-displacement (125-300cc) trail bike as a good learning machine and general-purpose exploring bike. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I'm not sure if my NAVI's carburetor issues are unique or if this is a hit-or-miss thing with the quality control. Some owners have reported back that they don't have any problems at all, while other owners have reported the same problems that I have. If it's just an air/fuel mixture setting, then that's easy enough to fix... just drill out the brass cover on top of the A/F screw, reset to the defaults specified in the service manual, and then start tuning from there. However, if my carburetor has a manufacturing defect, then it will need to be replaced. The bike is still new and has a warranty, so I'll let Honda figure it out before I start hacking at it. I prefer this type of throttle lock because you can completely remove your hand from the grip. The cramp buster palm rests only work if you maintain pressure/weight on the grip, and they always tend to get in the way of smooth throttle operation. The Go Cruise just rests against your front brake lever, and you can adjust it with your index finger... super simple and reliable! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Does anybody think that there will be a size upgrade for the fuel tank? Possibly 2 gallon capacity?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question... I'm sure something could be fabricated to increase the NAVI's fuel capacity. If I decide to do something crazy with it (e.g., Scooter Cannonball Run), then I will replace the lower storage box with a 4-gallon fuel cell. That should give the little NAVI some runtime! 😉👍 --QM

I might install an auxiliary tank where the storage box lives. That would only be needed if I decide to take the NAVI on crazy long road trips... we'll see! 😉👍 --QM

Would an oil cooler be a good idea?
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it runs hot enough to need a cooler. Most of these air-cooled scooter engines use forced fan cooling with a shroud around the cylinder. They don't typically have oil filters or external fittings, so connecting a cooler in the loop would probably require machining and mods to the crankcase. I've always wanted to add a proper oil filter to my PCX's via the side "filter screen" access port. It looks like there are two separate flow passages under the cover. So it should be possible to machine a custom plug/cap that seals into the factory spot that separates the flows out through the cap. Then an external filter or cooler could be added in-line. Oil pressure drop through the external plumbing might be an issue... unknown. 😉👍 --QM

The Honda NAVI owner's manual specifies 86 PON or higher, so I've been running 87 and 89 in it. This is a low-compression motor, so high test fuel shouldn't make much difference. 👍 --QM

I like following your story about the Navi to get an idea for what ~$1800 really gets you. Only my opinion, but it just seems more like a toy than anything useful. I think one would be better served spending more on a PCX or going used. It has more purpose than the Navi and I would bet does just about everything 'better'. Another observation is most people who are going to go cheap on the initial purpose probably wont' have the knowledge or patience for dealing with a carburetor. If Honda is viewing this as a means to get more people on two wheels, it may not work out so well if these 'new riders' become too frustrated with the quirks.

I am using mine to learn how to ride. I dont have an issue using clutch (i drive manual transmission cars as primary). I did not want to spend 4500 to find out if i enjoy riding or not ... figure if I enjoy this navi i would be even happier with a bigger bike. Happiness = reality - expectations. I dont expect much and so far I have been very happy with it.

So it appears to me that there is some kind of sweet spot between having a slightly bigger engine that will do like 55 with like 80% of throttle or 70% of throttle make it better mileage than a bike with a smaller engine that has like a top speed of 50 or so where are you have to ring it out to get 50 out of it and you will be spending more time going as fast as you can so if you had a bike they could go like 65 maybe seven years its top speed and you don’t run in at its top speed and just go like 55 even though it’s got a bigger engine it might get better fuel economy that’s what it sounds like to me so going small is OK but I guess you don’t wanna go to two small Would definitely not want to go smaller than 110 don’t wanna go smaller than the 125 and to me 50 cc is just too small
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard 8 ай бұрын
Yep, somewhere between 150-350 cc's is the happy medium between fuel economy, road speed, and longevity. I've had very good luck with my Honda CB500X in terms of reliability and fuel economy, so that's probably the upper end of the efficiency game for a full-sized bike. I think 185-300 cc's is probably the ideal displacement for scooters and mini-motos (under 300 lbs) for the USA market and our fast-paced roads. Unfortunately, there aren't any new bikes with that displacement in the USA anymore. All of the manufacturers have abandoned the 200-300 cc class entirely and have swelled them up to 400-500 cc's with commensurate prices to match. 😒 --QM

Howdy, Andy! I'm just about there with you... it's a little underwhelming. Expectations and perception are everything. I was expecting (assuming) that it would be able to get ~100 MPG and 90-ish miles before running dry. That doesn't seem to be in the cards so far, but the economy might improve after break-in and after the carburetor is adjusted a bit. Otherwise, I'll just keep this as a run around tool and maybe use it to teach my wife and middle daughter how to ride. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard I really like the efficiency aspect of the little-bike category, surprising the thing is so much lower than the pcx. Realistically though the price difference makes it a non factor for cost savings; it's just the idea of it. 😉

Ain't that the truth! 🤣 I have a few other carbureted bikes in the stable, but they tend to behave themselves unless I leave ethanol sitting in the bowl too long. @QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
No, the windscreen doesn't offer much protection from wind or rain. It does break up the airflow around my torso above 45 mph, so that is the only benefit. Overall, I don't recommend this windscreen due to fit & finish problems and the lack of function. I needed to bend every tab on the frame to fit the motorcycle, and the lower spacers didn't fit at all. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
