Love that crazy dark electro jam. Reminds me of Brothomstates, one of my all time favorites.

Very nice demo. I like the Aurora. Have not tried the FDN firmware yet because I thought "normal" reverb is boring and I can use my outboard gear or plugins for it. But I'll give it a try this weekend anyway.

The FDN reverb Is a fairly straight forward reverb. I do believe a feedback delay network is how basic reverbs work. Honestly there isn’t anything special going on with the alternative firmware, but i suppose it’s nice to have the option. It does do some linear fm style pitch shifting, which can be interesting, but that’s about it. At least it shows that they will be adding more to the module!

I wasn’t hugely impressed with the original, and even went on the Qu-Bit forum to ask if was meant to sound so harsh. Apparently this was down the the ‘spectral processing’ and I worked out that sharp attacks and sounds rich in harmonics should be avoided. And then the FDN firmware was released, and I now spend more time with that- though I do swap between firmwares now and again. Interesting that you described the original as “harsh” too- I think if I’d gone into an actual shop and tried it instead of buying online, they’d have lost a sale…

It makes sense as it’s trying to reproduce the incoming signal. So a more harmonic input would attribute to harshness, but yeah my first impressions of the modules was just harshness. The first few days of using it I didn’t get it, after awhile i can see some of the use cases. I think you’re right though if i were using it for the first time in the store, i wouldn’t see the appeal. I haven’t switched back to the original firmware sense i updated, but i should just to understand it a bit more. I do really like the way it sounds on drums tho.

Nice Vid, thx for sharing ! Aurora is very beautiful Reverb indeed, I love it. I bought it because all my Z-Dsp cards were stolen by an asshole, and I wanted a stereo verb. Then some friends offered me the "Afterneath" for my birthday. Last month I had the opportunity to buy an Erb-Verb for a ridiculus price so I bought it. And two weeks ago I made a lot of z-dsp cards copy at a friend's house, so now, as I've too many reverb in euro format I should sell the Aurora, but I can't (lol), nether the Afterneath nor the Erb-Verb, the Z-Dsp ! I like them all and I can't make a choice... ....wait, ....afterall, ...maybe I'll be able to sell the Milky Way !!! 😂😂

Thank you! Sounds like it has been a rollercoaster of events with reverbs 😂. I hadn't heard of the Z-Dsp, It looks super cool and i like the idea of the cartridges. Bummer that you lost some of them, but it sounds like you still have some good options! The milky way might be a good choice as it is on my buddies chopping block as well. It's always tough deciding what to get or what to keep, I usually decide based on what kind of music I'm going for, or if it is a necessary tool in my rack. Sometimes you're just drawn to certain modules, which is okay too! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and subscribing! It means a lot.
