Grew up watching this show, as a Cuban immigrant growing up in Miami, I saw myself and family representation on TV. It was amazing to be able to identify with a family on TV that was just like me! and I’m so grateful for allowing us this space ❤ 🇨🇺 🇺🇸 we arrived from Cuba in 1978, and just like the Peña’s my grandparents lived with us in our 3 bedroom / 1 bath 1950s mid century house in Westchester.

🇵🇷 I'm Puerto Rican too.l was 11/12 when first watching it. Never lived in Miami. We came down from The Bronx & resided in Hlywd since '73. 🤣 The show was funny! 📺 Was the pilot filmed in '76? Yes,l Googled it the show. It aired from 1977-1980

This show was the funniest back then, it was what was actually happening with the Cubans, I still find it hilarious, we had no internet, cellphone, only one car in the house but oh boy, how I miss those years

I can’t begin to tell you how much I LOVE this show….It made me laugh out loud and I don’t even understand Spanish, but the mixture of the English and Spanish language made it easy to follow and ALL the actors were SUPERB !! Thank you for posting 🥰🥰🥰🥰

This brings back childhood memories I used to watch it with my parents when they were still alive. We laughed our asses off it was so hilarious. The grandmother is the scene stealer with her funny one liners

Steven Bauer's claim to fame was was starring in Scarface alongside the great Al Pacino their chemistry together was phenomenal

The actress who played the character of the grandmother, Velia Martinez, was born in Tampa to Cuban parents, although apparently she grew up in Cuba and the actor Manolo Villaverde, Pepe in the show, and who is still alive, is Mexican, but he imitated the Cuban accent perfectly.

I’m white and I love cafecito con chocolate y leche. And my favorite food is chimichangas. I grew up in Minnesota and I live in California now. The only reason why I’m glad to be white is to express myself as someone who can appreciate cultures that I don’t belong with. And a white person who is dignified at least on the surface - moved by a worker’s ethic. I know that God made me white because I’m basically a non starter - so God gave me this big huge head start. But it wasn’t me who told me that, and I’m still only just learning it. It seems to me like the reasons to be proud are these ‘gifts from God’ that make my life reasonably good, and safe and sheltered - my parents never divorced, my mother still loves me, I haven’t been disowned or disinherited, and I’m in reasonably good health and not really traumatized by the perils of a World outside my family’s white middle class home. So why do I not convey my pride for being fortunate and lucky to live with these blessings? Don’t I know that I’m a square who has life on easy street and the reason God made me white is probably because I couldn’t have coped with it if my skin was black or brown. Thank God I’m white, right? And I was never invited to any quinces. So I’ll try to stay cultured, run with Paisanos, and eat the best food, and try to develop in myself whatever it is that makes some people permanently allegro. I’ll be satisfied.

En el ano 1979 steven bauer dejo que pasa usa cuando se fue para Hollywood para trabajar en la serie from here to eternity en el ano 1980 junto ah barbara hershey kim basinger y don johnson que eran actores desconocidos en esa epoca y bauer todavia usaba el nombre rocky echevarria que es su verdadero nombre.

I use to like this show I found it by accident I was changing the channel I stopped at PBS and I watched and I was hooked and I kept watching At the time I was 14 in 1979 and I thought this was bizarre a show with a cast that spoke English & Spanish but this wasn't the show that I've watched the first show I've ever saw was a show called Villa Allegre and Carrascolendas a couple of years earlier Bilingual programs were very interesting then u learned a lot of Spanish words wish they could make a comeback

I would kill to have this series with English subtitles. If you do not speak Spanish you only get about 1/4 or 1/2 of the jokes. The show was just as good as All in the Family, often showing the generation gap was so noticeable then regardless of cultural differences.

maybe lets get a petition going for a streaming service to clean it up to Hd and add subtitles , I grew up watching this , laughing at half the jokes and dealing with many situations the show dealt with ( 305 for life baby ) !!

No me entero, porque en los 15s cubano la costumbre es; el primer baile lo hace la 15añera con el padre después con el charbalan y después se viste normal y empieza la fiesta. No me entero está falsedad y chotear la fiesta de 15s como lo han echo. 😂

Abuela looks different here...younger than the other episodes. Is it the same actress? I didn't like how the mom wore an awful wig in the later episodes. I would watch this show on PBS and could follow quite a bit because of the Spanglish and how the kids would reply in English. They had a 40th anniversary in Miami a couple of years ago.
