OMG, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this info with us. I have been researching a lot and you can find a lot of contradictory information out there. You not only cover all the parameters to a wide range of fish, but you also explain in such a great way that makes it really hard to not follow your advice. Thank you. Subscribed and liked, a lot btw :-)

Hi Richelle, I enjoyed your video! You took some difficult topics and broke them down to be easily understood, especially for the beginning hobbyists. The one parameter I was in disagreement with was Nitrite. I was always taught anything above zero was unacceptable for a fully cycled, evenly balanced aquarium. I am somewhat concerned about an aquarium move that will be taking place in 3 weeks where the water comes from completely different water sources; it currently now comes from well water and is about ideal for my Malawi haps, to 40 miles away to city water sources. The only way I can put my mind at rest is to prepare by first testing the water at the new residence, and then have the necessary Cichlid Lake Salts and Malawi Buffers on hand. I also have Caribsea African Sand which will help somewhat, but it's not crushed corals, and I'm not switching substrate just prior to a move in a 220 and loose all that beneficial bacteria that has built up for years. The aquarium service I hired to do the job feels very confident in zero losses, so long as I follow their post move instructions. Oh well; we'll see. Thanks very much for sharing your video. Any aquarium moving tips are welcome.

Hi Denny, Nitrite has to be at ZERO. Nitrate on the other hand is okay in small doses. To have zero nitrates, you would have to run a bunch of resigns full time in your tank. It's just water pollution. Nitrite prevents fish from assimilating the oxygen in the water :S Such a big move can be stressful. I understand! - Caribsea African Sands are usually made to raise the pH, don't stress about this parameters. - If you're worried about losing that beneficial bacteria in your sand, you can always use Seachem Prime. It detoxifies nitrite and ammonia. - If you have a deep sand bed, I would WASH the sand! There are anaerobic bacteria that get lodged in there and when we move it, they die. Most people who do this find themselves freaking out over enormous nitrate peaks. -Your bacteria in the filter dies after 4 hours of not running, keep that in mind while moving. - Carry your fish in 5 gallon buckets and re-acclimate them in the new aquarium. - Try to keep as much water as possible! and most important : -Stay calm, everything is going to be allright ;-) (Especially if you have a pro taking care of it)

QuebecCichlides Thanks for the tips and feedback! I must have misunderstood you in the video. I thought you were speaking of Nitrites; not Nitrates. I am fully aware that there will always be some Nitrates in a cycled aquarium with fish in it. I hired 5 professionals to do this move for me. They are fully insured and guarantee their work with references.

Turn off your heater if the temperature is too high and turn it on again at night when it gets cooler. I do a water change if the temperature gets too high. I lost fish and learnt the hard way. Or put you heater on a timer so you don't forget to turn it on at night. I use ice cubes to cool the tank water down, just some tips I hope help.

Great information explained in a very practical good way. In relation to temperature control I've recently installed a STC-1000 temperature controller in my African cichlid tank. I installed four computer fans on the hood to aid cooling. I now have full control of temperature and no worries about it going out of range. The cooling is done by the principal of evaporative cooling, used alot with the salt water aquarium guys which I got the idea from. You can check out instragram Malawi_cichlid_sa. I will soon post on KZbin. Great channel keep it up ✌️

Thanks for your comment. I love the STC 1000. I have them on my freshwater aquarium systems. I used to have the computer fans on top of my sump but with the water splashing, they would end up breaking. We only get about 2 weeks of intense heat here. Most of my energy goes to bringing the temperature up, not down 😂

Don't know how it is up there but here in Ohio it's the Chloramine that's the killer....Most people just treat for chlorine and wonder why they lose fish..

They use it heavily here. Water here is very hard also. Comes out of the tap at 7.9 PH and higher...
