Queen Anthurium Getting Chopped! 🙀

Sad day, I have root rot in my first Anthurium Queen that has been so beautiful since getting her. 😥

When they get to that stage I usually just throw them in a moss/perlite mix and put in a cloche I bought off Amazon for higher humidity as those cutting now will need it to push leaves and roots. Hope she pulls through took me 4 queens before mine looks as fabulous as it does and I still have chonks that haven't done a thing in my experience chonks are the hardest to get going again once they have no leaves .

Why is moss the medium of choice especially for recovery? Sorry you went through 4 queens, I guess we are about even then. Hahahaha. I have one beautiful one left and she just put out a new leaf for me. I think she was happy I upgraded her pot a few weeks back. I don’t know how long I will keep the chonk to be honest. I finally through out the leaf she died about 3 weeks after I did the video. It was sad 😞.

@@LeafyConversations moss just seems to hold just enough moisture and work well so the growths or aerial roots don't dry out to much you don't want it drenched but wet like a rung out wet rag. When I do moss and put in a dome or something with a cabinet it shoots out leaves and roots and then within a couple months I'm able to repot.. I've never had luck rooting in fluval or actual soil mediums they usually dry out and dry rot or stay too wet and wet rot. Yeah queens are very temperamental but my queen of hearts was worse I'm on my 4 of that one too and about done lol some anthurium just are stubborn and anything with queen in the name seems to be just that .. I refuse to keep these beautiful plants in cabinets though so if I can't get them to acclimate to my reg humidity I usually just can't and won't keep them . Good luck on the other I'm sure she'll do great especially if she's pushing a leaf

@theeclecticgent502 I went ahead and changed it out tonight and put it in a case I bought from Amazon that hold humidity. I am like you if they can’t live in my ambient air then “see ya later”. I refuse to by one of those plant cabinets. I also feel like people have a lot more possibility for pests break out in those enclosed cabinets. 🐞

What i do for plants like this is spagg and perlite they will grow like crazy roots or no roots 😊 then when the roots have formed well about 2 inches carefully remove spagg. It doesnt matter if some spagg moss is adhered to roots dont fret about it better to leave it on than to break new precious fragile roots. Then put it in a pot that holds the roots tight with preferred soil mix. Dont go to big keep the plant tight at first. Once that pot gets filled with roots then repot. Also keep watering with the micro water and ive been using supertheive foiligae pro once the roots have formed. 😊 Good luck with her. The queen is the hardest to conquer IMO and many othere 😅 she can be a diva. Hope to see an update soon as i know you make these videos way in advance. Good luck 🤞 🙏

The top cut didn’t make it 😩I was so sad. However, bottom cut is doing ok. I repotted in sphagnum yesterday based off the comments here and I wanted to take a look at her. She’s in a case for humidity so we shall see. Thanks so much Suzanne!!! 🥰

If the hydrogen peroxide is 3% you don’t have to dilute it with water at all.

Hi!! I hope all is well your way. I’m so sorry about your queen. I have learned that anthurium are SO hardy!!! Much more than we give them credit for. Whenever I have to rehab them, I put them into moss and 💯 humidity under bright light. They love moss. I understand it isn’t the easiest to get them out of the moss once they come back but because the roots are so chunky even if you break a few it will be ok. I also will add a pinch of superthrive water for nutrients. I am curious to see how your chunky mix works though. I’m sure it will be ok. Great white is awesome and it really does add a nice boost. Hello! I got my beautiful Hoya Wilbur Grace Russia she’s beautiful! The stem is sooooooo loooooong! Do you have any how to videos on trellising your Hoya’s? OK, since it’s been about 3 weeks or more since I did this video I took the chonk out of the pot tonight and washed it off. It looks like a few new roots have appeared. I went ahead and took your advice and put it in moss with some more Mychro and put it in a humidity type case under my brightest grow lights. Why do they love moss so much? I hate what it does to the roots. My Hoya came in moss and a lot of it stayed on the roots, which aggravated me. 😆 The leaf didn’t make it in the chunky mix. I had to toss her not long ago unfortunately. Very sad. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! That means a lot to me! 🥰

@@LeafyConversations ohhhh exciting!! Happy to hear you got it. I bet she is so beautiful. 🤩 I’m not sure why they love moss so much but if I had to guess it is because of the fluffiness. The airflow is top tier and because they are epiphytic or semi epiphytic they don’t like to have the roots entirely covered. It’s ok if you repot with a bit of moss stuck to the roots. I never get to carried away getting it all off. It causes more problems than necessary. So long as it’s not totally encapsulated in the moss when you repot it should be fine. Especially anthurium. They like to have access to water at all times it seems. I like to pot them into nursery pot. Cover the main roots with your preferred mix. As the aerial roots form tuck them in moss. I just end up topping the soil with moss as it grows. They love it. Put your nursery pot in a cache pot. I never let the cache pot dry out. Just a bit is all you need but it allows her to drink when she wants too. Hope that helps. I’m rooting for the queen. Keep her just as she is. Let the humidity do the work. She will come back!! 🪴
