The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were among the final guests to arrive for Baroness Thatcher's funeral. They got to St Paul's Cathedral around fifteen minutes before the service was due to begin at 11am. The National Anthem was played by the Band of the Welsh Guards as the Queen's car arrived at the cathedral's entrance. It is the first time the monarch has attended the funeral service of a former prime minister since Sir Winston Churchill's state ceremony in 1965. Report by Sophie Foster.

I've been to a number of funerals here in America where the mourners were moved to clap in reference to a mentioned outstanding accomplishment or act involving the deceased. There's nothing wrong with clapping at a funeral as it shows "appreciation" for the deceased person's life and contributions towards others. It can and is also comforting to the family of the deceased, to know that many people appreciated their loved one. My mother's funeral was sad but joyful, just as she was in her life.

Publicly yeah, but they aren’t the longest overall, in my home town (in México) there are many elderly couples that are still alive at the queen and prince’s age. My grandparents for example, they have been married for 80 years, my grandfather is 100 (will be 101 in January) and my grandmother is 95, and just like them other residents of my town are around that age. But I’ll have to say, that the health that the queen and prince enjoy in their 90’s is far superior to the health of all of the other elderly couples around their age I know.

Both queen of Britain and Margaret Thatcher are patriots for their contry. They all work hard for their liberty and entrepreneurship. The Britain is the most loyal Ally to our country and they always stand by us firmly, no matter what is happening. We should always cherish their valuable friendship and respect their culture and help each other forever. :)

Neutral Observer. Quite the contrary. It's actually the fact that I have a strong love for politics, if I can't get anywhere in music you can expect to see me in politics in some formation. Why would I get a job? When I can further my studies at university; that will evidently grant me much higher intellect that a working class pig such as yourself. Why would I get a job in the now where your industry or job will most likely be non existent. The education system now is making a future investment in jobs that don't even exist yet. We are the future, like it or not. You'll be a fossil who is out of touch with the modern world by the time I'm out of uni. I'll get a higher paying job than you and I'll pay higher taxes than you. My dad probably pays more in taxes than you earn in an annual salary . Surely you must know that someone who is taxed 40% contributes more to reform, legislation the working classes beloved NHS. I'll laugh if you become redundant in a few years, have fun getting another job when you are so under educated. You criticism Thatcher yet what she did has probably put you in better stead, for example the Right to Buy Scheme allowed some of the poorest and previously disenfranchised people in society a way to buy their own homes. Thatcher’s government crushed the grip the public sector and government held over the country and created a far better environment for entrepreneurial people to thrive. When she became prime minister in 1979, the top tax rate was a pernicious 98%; the bottom rate was 65%. However much or little you earned, you were paying most of your money in taxes, making any business activity or desire to be self-sufficient very difficult. When Margaret Thatcher left office in 1990, the top tax rate was down to 40% and the bottom tax rate was 25%. By cutting taxes and regulation people could keep and spend more of their own money, businesses thrived and the British economy was revitalized. You'd be fucked without Thatcher you uneducated pig. I also see you call me a *pedo* (which is the correct spelling thus proving how uneducated you are) yet refer to my mother being around in the 80's which suggests I'm in the range between 16-23 years of age... How can I be a pedo if you are obviously older than me? Please go back to school and get a valuable education before you spew a load of socialist shite... It's amusing to see how young adults are much more intelligent than their predecessors, must be the work of Mr Gove. If you need me to educate you further reply, if you persist to be abuse then don't reply at all because it's futile and subsequently conveys how much of a muppet you are! :)

TBH I personally don't think any PM does. Not out of personal dislike for the ex-PM, but rather the fact that most PM's don't receive state funerals. On the face of it it just feels extremely disrespectful to leave it up to the PM of the hour to choose who he prefers. If the argument is simply that she "Changed Britain" then Clement Attlee had just as much, if not more, of an effect and did not receive a state funeral. It needs to be about state impartiality over all.

The monarch is a symbol of prestige for this counrty. It unlike a president balances out the authority of one person calling the shots. The monarch holds powers that are only allowed use in the most dire of circumstances. These powers have never been exercised so we have no idea the extent of their influence. The monarch is the head of state, the PM's boss. He/she MUST answer to the Soverign. A recent senario in the Cold war is a prime example of the Soverign's influence over the government:

@wotan10950 2 жыл бұрын
@@mellamanluiselio6294 Oh, I'm not so sure about that! From many sources, the Queen was rather appalled by some of Thatcher's policies, and she wasn't astute enough at the time to fully understand Churchill's. I think she attended their funerals because both Churchill and Thatcher were so influential, for better or worse, and made a huge impact on Britain, much more so than any other prime ministers.

Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the Church of England and a very devout Christian. She's worked her whole life following the teachings of Jesus, that is to care for the less fortunate. Margret Thatcher was the complete and utter opposite of that. There is absolutely no comparison. The Queen uses her position of power to enrich others. Thatcher used her position of power to oppress others

""The Queen unlike Thatcher was/is compleatly humble to the british people. She was/is not trying to be popular for a government party" Why would she even have to when she is already inheritent of fame and wealth? Thatcher had to fight tooth and nail. a monarchy is a system of tyranny. A well balanced and layed out republic that restricts power is the only stepping stone so far discovered for human freedom and progress while reducing poverty." I'm afraid I really have to disagree with you. I think the Queen, knowing that her position is inherited is extremely humbled about her political/social position and I think she truly loves her country as well. Because the Queen had never really personally liked Mrs. Thatcher and could have easily binned her if she wanted to. However, she respected her enough, despite her personal feelings toward her to make her a peer in life for her service to the country; and honour her in death by attending her funeral. I think the Queen honestly cares about the well being of her people (and her Commonwealth HOSs) and would do anything for them. I think she's a very genuine, sweet woman
