I would agree that I have also heard that it is now the overall blade length that counts in UK, not just the cutting edge. (Source Black Belt Barrister.) I really ought to look it up for myself but would agree that it is far better to play safe rather than risk an over keen copper (painful past experience).

Hi Martin, if you read the actual act concerning legal knife carrying it contradicts itself, one part says three inch cutting edge and a second part says three inch overall blade length, but if the police stop you they go with overall length. I had knives sold as legal to carry with the three inch cutting edge so I have reprofiled them to three inch overall blade length some look okay others not so good, but I don't want trouble with a to keen copper so better safe than sorry, it is a real mess and if they amend the law who knows they might go even further sad affair. I like the Sawcut style but only have the one Queen Wharncliffe version made in China but good quality.

I agree about time away from children. I do most of my YT stuff when they are in bed or busy. Uk knife laws are confusing. I intend to be legal with the knives I carry generally with Couple that are for use around the house, bushcraft (gardening) or when camping. I am still applying the 3 inch cutting blade until I see for definite on this. The main thing is not to carry any knives in the prohibited areas and not to mess About with them in public areas.

I agree with Lewis in the comments section. The law appears to be contradictory. I think just to make life easier for themselves the Police and Judges are using the overall length of the blade as a measurement when it ought to be the cutting edge. Heinnie are still advertising knives like the Viper Hug as UK legal although their overall length exceeds three inches. It's certainly confusing. Regarding saw cut bone, I only have one knife with this (a Case Sod Buster in Caribbean Blue) and one side is the conventional vertical cuts whilst the other has a 'rainbow' type pattern as though it's been cut with a circular saw. Is this common?

I have a Case sawcut bone swell center jack in the Caribbean blue. The sawcut is non-existent 😂. I think Cases sawcut can be a bit hit or miss. Tbh, I can't remember the last time I saw a police officer not alone stopped by one. Brilliant comment, Ed 🫡 👊

@@SteelCityKnives Thanks. Yes my Soddy also has to be held at an angle to properly see the sawcut patterns. It's a bit of a shame but its a lovely knife. As for the Old Bill, I was pulled over last year on my Motorcycle and given a lecture about my slightly too small (according to him) number plate. The Cop was coming out with all kinds of nonsense and I really had to bite my tongue for the simple reason that I had a Viper Hug in my pocket and I knew there could be problems if I ended up getting arrested. We definitely need clarity on blade length legality.
