I'm so obsessed with Queen and Freddie. Not because if just the music, but because their music has been a light in my dark life..has brought me out of my depression and has helped with my anxiety. Long live Queen! 👑👑👑👑 Forever grateful for their music and Freddie.... And Roger and Brian and John...

Possibly one of the greatest rock bands of all time. I know that this is very subjective and purely opinion but I have been a fan since I first heard "Another One Bits the Dust" They were so diverse in their musical genres and for that reason they did so many wonderful and different songs. I still listed to them almost every single day and thoroughly enjoy singing along with them while in my car or at home.

The Game ( feat. ) Another one Bites, was the last Queen album I bought. I purchased every one prior as soon as I knew it was in the shops. I am still playing music today and It IS disco no mater what you say ; from the 4/4 beat to the bass and that horrible synth noise. We had an electric piano on stage and I would not play or sing to, synth music. Rather proud of that given how things turned out.

@Annette Johnson your partially right there will never be another Freddie but the band band still lives and did go on tour resently, they actually found someone who looked a little like Freddie and they agreed that he was the only person who even came close to sounding like him as well and I seen them on a tv show and the guy did very good and during the interview he said I'm not here to replace Freddie but to help the band remember their best friend and help Freddie to live on with his fans, you should try to find it I can't remember which show it was but if I can find it I'll let you know!

Queen outlived Punk by decades, and are still going strong, while only the old Punkers remember Punk music. Queen reinvented themselves countless times, a credit to their musical and artistic versatility, and always came out on the top. They are the greatest rock band that came from a land of excellent rock groups, simply the best of the best. I have been a great fan of Queen since 1973 and will stay so the rest of my life. Thanks for uploading this excellent documentary, from Steve, Hamburg, Germany.😘😜😋

This was a much better documentary than some others that are around at the moment, thank you for uploading. Sometime - must have been in the early summer of 73 - I recall chatting with some stallholders - two quite cute longish haired guys, one blond and one dark, and a girl in Biba clothes - at the Kensington Market as I was browsing their stall. They had some pretty odd stuff for sale, including a long typed thesis on Jimi Hendrix and sixties cultural changes, which I found quite interesting and thought about buying; however the five pounds (IIRC) they were asking for it seemed a bit steep, so I asked instead about the large drawing pinned up on the wall, an intriguing sort of mystical symbol of some kind. The pretty blond boy said' Oh that's the Queen Crest' - and then, very proudly - 'It's our band's logo!'. I had no idea what a Queen Crest was and I'd never heard of any band having a crest or a logo, but asked politely about the band, and he told me all about how they had an album coming out and how hard and long they'd worked on it and how it had taken them a year's solid persistence to pull it all together, and that I should come along to their upcoming gig to celebrate the album's release. Unsure if this was an invitation/ chat up line or just a bit of general audience drumming-up, I laughed and said I'd think about it. I enquired as to the price of the logo thing but was told it was the original artwork and not for sale. Then, as I was heading back across the shop, one of them - possibly the girl - said 'AND YOU CAN'T BUY THE JACKET EITHER!!' and suddenly they were falling about laughing and another one said Oh no, that would never do! It might bring on World War III ! (or something to that effect) whereupon they fell about with even more raucous laughter. Confused, I looked down and saw a man's bright red (with white stripes?) shiny jacket slung over the back of a chair - definitely not something I'd want to buy; my taste was more for the currently uber-hip Biba style smokey colours and elegantly cut hippyish finery - not athletic wear! I concluded from the array of drinks on the low table they were sitting around on the floor they were probably all just a bit drunk and silly, so felt it was time to move on, deeper into the Market's interior where the scent of patchouli oil and marijuana smoke was thicker and the stallholders seemed a tad more cool, and bought a beautiful long grey-and-scarlet Moroccan style dress that I still have. The stall holders were starting to pack up for the day as I made my way back out, and I was surprised to see the dark haired guy from the drunk people's stall who hadn't really spoken much before, with a long pole in his hand, about to pull down the mesh security shutter on a leather jackets stall. We looked at each other and for a moment my heart did a little flip, he was so cute now I could see him properly! Then he smiled at me and for the first time I noticed the teeth and the high heeled boots that made him look taller than he actually was, and told my heart to be still.. I said (something like) 'what are you doing here?' And he said, (something like) 'I'm just closing up for a friend - I look after this stall for him too.' 'Ah', I said, probably thinking what a lot of BS all that stuff about their having a band and an album must have been, if they were having to work two shop-keeping jobs as well... So I just smiled and nodded and and said 'See you' and he said 'Oh, see you!' and stared after me as if he'd been rather expecting to talk some more... I looked back once and he was bending down, locking up.. Then I went to live in Devon and ran a wholefood restaurant and got married and went to Australia and forgot all about London and wannabe rock bands for a few decades... never really connecting images I'd occasionally see of Queen (not really my sort of band I have to confess back then) with those three people at the Ken Market, or associating their strutting, outrageous front man with that shyly smiling 'poor boy' with the 3 jobs, who'd made my heart beat a little faster just for a moment... So that's how I encountered Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor and (I'm pretty sure) Mary Austin, many years ago, for anyone who might be interested in such stories... I only recently twigged the possible connection and became intrigued enough to start trying to piece together what were at first some pretty hazy fragments of memories by researching and verifying each bit I thought I remembered, like the fact of the existence of the KM stall, the fact Freddie's art school thesis was on Jimi Hendrix, and they were so desperate for money they had indeed tried (apparently, eventually succeeding) to sell it on the stall (I'd love to know who bought it, and of course kick myself now for not doing so myself), the creation of the Queen Crest and the band's first album release in the summer of 73; even the incomprehensible private joke about the jacket now makes sense - apparently Freddie and Roger had almost had a terminal falling out when Roger actually sold Freddie's jacket which he'd left lying around to a customer, and Freddie had been terribly hurt and thrown a major tantrum when he found it gone, and someone had to run after the customer and explain the mistake and beg for it back...And Freddie was indeed employed by another stall-holder to mind his leather goods stall, and yes, they were all living pretty much hand to mouth until well after that first album launch, due to those unfavourable contractual arrangements with their management/ production company... :-)

They still had the stall in 1973?? I thought that was in 1969-1971.
@papercup2517
@papercup2517 4 жыл бұрын
@@Nina-oi1qk That's a good question. I don't specifically remember what year it was (I was either living in London or coming back there at regular intervals to work, between art school and other stuff, all through the period from 1968 to around 1976 or 7). So I had to try and work out the date by matching the things I recall seeing and them telling me with information available on the internet re what happened when in Queen history. I did actually originally assume it was earlier, around 1968 -71, while I was still living in London full time. But the thing I'm pretty sure they said, that their album was just about to be released, plus the fact that I definitely saw the Queen logo (a large B&W line drawing of it) pinned up on the wall seemed to indicate it had to be around June or July 73. That's because I've seen it stated in several different places that Freddie only designed it in 73, shortly before the 'Queen' album's release. I spotted the logo, looking just as I remember it, on the drum kit in recordings of at least one 1973 performance on YT (can't remember now which one/s, but after the album release date I think). I'm wondering whether possibly the stall you're referring might have been the one at the Portobello Market which I understand Freddie was involved with too, while he was at, and/or just after, art school. The Kensington Market was an indoor market on Kensington High Street, arranged with little shops going off the main walkway, like an Eastern soukh. it was a very hip/underground vibes sort of place selling mainly alternative clothing (IIRC) whereas the Portobello Market was outdoors and more of an antiques/secondhand market for the general public, although it also became a fashionable place to hang out in the 60s and some fashionable young people like Pattie Boyd and her sister Jenny had stalls there amongst the general traders.

Pity they missed the 'real' story of the Bo Rhap video: they were due to play on Top Of The Pops, but they were on tour at the time, so they weren't going to be able to appear live. So they made the video, really quickly, with Bruce Gowers, and the night it played on T.O.T.P, they were playing live at the Caird Hall in Dundee.

"Freddie would have liked to have BEEN Aretha..." remarks Brian May at 27:00. Also, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels ever so slightly shredded whenever she hears Don't Stop Me Now. "Popular not (necessarily) fashionable" --- makes sense. All very good observations. Thanks

And John was always the secret weapon. He just booooms out of nowhere speaking in general. For example, While Queen was fighting over someting stupid, John laughed, turn his back, and under a minute he wrote "Another one bites the dust", while they were still screaming at each other :) That is just one example.👋

Brian May- I think it was pretty cool your Mum and Dad came to the Garden- I know, coming from an educational background, as a Julliard pianist, how my Dad- a famous photographer in his own right- let me do what I needed to be- independent and a bit wild..The love never left though.

I didn't realize that they weren't big in the States for a while from the beginning. A local station played them from about '73 forward, with another local city picking them up around '77, so to hear them was normal. I liked their '70's music a lot. It was its own thing.

fallandbounce I 1st heard them with Killer Queen, but I had heard 7 Seas of Rye but not a lot. I was only about 5 in 1973. They were really popular in 1977 when News of the World was out & Huge in USA. they were big in 1975-1976 but 1977 album cemented them as a “ top band”. 1980 album blew everyone away. The only album I didn’t care much for was Hot Space but I did like some songs. “ back chat” is good & under pressure. Oddly, all of their final 3 albums went #1. Miracle, Innuendo, & Made in Heaven, and maybe “ Magic”

Yesterday I saw a photo of Mr MERCURY, MY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD! 😭💔 IT was one of Freddie in his last days. 💔 It popped up in my faves and I am very SAD e see that! ☹️ If you are a die hard fan of Queen then we all know that Freddie's last days were painful! It broke my heart 💔 to see that! Why would anyone put that out there? 💔😭 I prefer to remember him as he was, A ROCK GOD! ❤️💕❤️🎼 I hope I never see that. Photo again! RIP Freddie! ❤️☁️🌌

According to Freddie's sister, Kashmira, Seven Seas of Rhye was a fantasy world that Freddie created for her. While they were still living in Zanzibar, he would make up stories about the Seven Seas of Rhye, to entertain Kash. Freddie brought the idea and probably many of the lyrics to the song and whoever brought the idea to the group got credit for the song. I always found Brian's comment unnecessary, especially since Freddie was gone by then.
@andreashaw3102

Brian was jealous of Freddie’s skills. There are other instances of his passive aggressive attempts to take credit. All after Freddie died. The funny thing is he is still riding on Freddie’s coattails.
