Back in the day whenever Queen toured the states, MJ makes it a point to attend any of their concerts.

When you understand who Freddies singing Idols were it explains a great deal about the church choir vibe you were getting. He drew his influences from Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul , and from Broadway singers like Liza Minelli. You combine these and you get something extraordinary, and Unique . And no doubt he certainly was!Sadly the greatest singers who ever lived are all but nearly gone now . Aretha, Michael J , and Freddie...thank god they have left their remarkable music behind for us to cherish.

Michael Jackson convinced Queen to release "Another One Bites the Dust" (I'm sure you've heard that too) since he loved it so much; he used to go to a lot of their shows and they played the song to him before it was released. You can even hear a bit of its influence on "Billie Jean" (my favorite Michael song - listen to the beat!) Freddie also used to wear one glove back in the early 70s during shows that Michael saw, but of course Michael took soooo many influences from a lot of artists and made his own uniquely amazing persona (I grew up loving Michael Jackson too!) Freddie was supposed to collaborate with Michael on some Thriller songs, but their schedules didn't really line up; they recorded a few songs that weren't all released. The one we have is "There Must Be More to Life Than This", which isn't incredibly polished or anything but still beautiful. It's called the "golden duet", lol. They also apparently had some issues working together - Michael brought his pet llama to the recording studio, and Freddie refused to record with it in the room (quite understandably). However, Freddie always spoke kindly about Michael even after that.

And the Red Jacket MJ for thriller, kind of like Freddie's Yellow one no? 😜
@laurenraubaugh95424 жыл бұрын
@@kelleeholmes9448 Yep, but to be fair the Thriller video (1982) came before Freddie wore that in 1986!
@papercup25174 жыл бұрын
@@laurenraubaugh9542 The single glove thing though was a very early (long-hair era) original Freddie idea, that MJ copied. No problem with that - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and all that... The fashion for fancy military style jackets started in London way back in the mid-sixties, being old/surplus military uniforms sold by a guy called John Paul in in his Carnaby St boutique called I Was Lord Kitchener's Valet. Everyone who was anyone had one, including Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger, who wore his on Top of the Pops, an event that caused the boutique to sell out its entire stock by lunchtime the next day... Around the same time the Beatles used the famous shiny military band outfits for the Sgt Pepper cover, and red jackets in their Strawberry Fields forever/Penny Lane video... MJ just put Freddie's glove thing together with the Beatles', Mick and Jimi's military jacket, to create his own hybrid 80s look...

What Freddie was was a superstar entertainer. He was incandescent on the stage. Another level.

MJ adored Queen. He recorded a couple of songs with Freddie, a few years back it got released (because MJ got funny about it, it took that long to negotiate it). Look for it.

Part of the reason I binge watch these videos, is precisely that epiphany moment where the reactor realizes...ok yeah, I've pretty much heard every song Queen's ever been known for, I just didn't know it was them. It's often quite an amusing realization to behold.

One of the most amusing things about this video to me is the Mineshaft Tshirt he is wearing. which was a well known BDSM gay bar.
@papercup25174 жыл бұрын
@Julie Marino The joy at his joy is always tinged with sadness for me though - I think Brian said something similar, that he couldn't ever feel 100% happy playing this song later, since it was the period Freddie was really going overboard (quite understandably, having had to repress his sexuality for years) with the 'doing everything with everybody' thing... leading as we all know now inevitably to HIV and later AIDS...clubs like the Mineshaft, in NY and Munich etc that actively encouraged high levels of casual/promiscuous sex were right at the epicentre of AIDS infection and deaths... Brian said he thought maybe they should have 'looked after' Freddie a bit better, and maybe could have stopped it happening... but what do you say to an adult, especially when they were all doing or had done their share of partying... It took a while before the awful truth of AIDS really hit as a reality, I think; before that it could just be ignored, as Freddie did, at first, thinking it won't happen to me, or whatever... So I can't help but see Freddie's exuberant leap into space, etc here as unwittingly turning out to be a leap into the abyss... his great leap into life that unfortunately turned out to have such a tragic outcome...

Man you have me hooked with these Queen reactions, great to see more people become fans. Two requests, another one bites the dust music video (another queen song that you will have heard without knowing it’s queen) and for vocal and talent ‘save me’ from the Montreal 1981 concert. Watch out for Brian (guitarist) starting on the piano then swapping mid song to guitar so Freddie can play. Keep it up my man!

You made me laugh when you said you were getting a “Sunday School Choir vibe” from this song, then Freddie starts singing about being a sex machine ready to reload like an atom bomb about to explode! 🤣 I’ve subscribed because I’m enjoying your Queen reactions. You have probably heard a lot of their songs and don’t realise it. We are the Champions, Another One Bites the Dust. Can I suggest Under Pressure live at Wembley 1986. It has an iconic bass riff that was Stolen! by Vanilla Ice for his song Ice Ice Baby. Queen sued him, he lost. Queen have an extensive and very diverse catalogue of music, you’ve got a lot to catch up on

Have you heard the Freddie and Michael collaboration: There must be More to Life than This"? - apparently, they had met and wanted to work together, but never really got into the same space - so this was a remote studio effort - in my humble opinion, it's not the greatest song - but there is no denying two of the greatest vocalist of all time -- obviously there is no video -- but it's pretty easy to hear - when you know both of their voices - who is singing what... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZuZqJqvhcemj6M I do live Michael - but I thing Freddie was the "stronger" singer --
