It's depressing how quickly the loving parents agreed in this episode that their firstborn Charles "cannot be saved." Considering today's outcome: Charles is king, Anne is a monument to duty, Andrew is royal scum and Edward - is still Edward. At least one would like to give credit for the fact that Edward's youthful cynicism at the time was probably his way of dealing with Gordonstown. After all, he was the only one of his generation who managed to stay married to his first wife and bring a few nice children into the world who didn't cause any scandals.

Looking back, Charles was lucky that the Queen believed so adamantly in the order of succession to the throne despite everything. A less principled mother could have tried y to use Charles' love affair with a Catholic married woman as an opportunity to remove him from the line of succession and make her favorite Andrew the heir to the throne. There was certainly no shortage of conservative Anglican bishops and politicians who would have supported this. But as Edward VIII once put it: In the end, the crown ends up back on the right head. Indeed, if Andrew had been crown prince or king when his involvement in this disgusting Epstein scandal came to light, the British monarchy might well have truly been finished.

You can definitely see from this episode that Andrew is the Queen’s favorite, with Anne ranked 2nd, Edward 3rd, and Charles dead last. You can tell just from the four of them’s entrance into the scene in this episode and their interactions with her. Andrew carefree and rather naughty. Anne would question whether she really wants to keep up with their original plan when she thinks the weather is not good and in the end just left the Queen there alone, showing that she is not really afraid. Edward slightly afraid of losing civil list money but still not very restrained. Charles on the other hand, you can tell he is very eager and careful, wishing to please and afraid to miss a single step.

Phillip then says, "Is there anything one loves more in life than a pair of long lasting boots?". You see Anne smile a ghost of a smile. Here is British understatement to a tee. Because Phillip is talking about Anne and she completely gets it.

Damn thats cold. I can see why sometimes Charles is the way he is he didn't grow up with that emotional support or nuturing from either of his parents and its had a massive impact on him not that it excuses his behaviour and how he treated Diana but I guess in some ways he felt pride and resentment at Diana for her mothering skills and love she showered on their boys something he didn't get.

Charles was jealous because he expected all the love and admiration Diana got. You get recorded once in history to allegedly say you preferred to see your horses first over your kids and your reputation is tarnished forever? Pls Even if that were true I can think of several reasons why I would prefer in one particular instance to see my horse, pets, or animals before my own kids or other family members and loved ones. For example, sometimes you’re going true a personal struggle where you don’t want anyone to see you or interact with anyone. The simple comfort of being with your pet or seeing horses running. You don’t always need to prefer to be with all or specific loved ones or to go to them immediately in every instance. We don’t know the context. We don’t know if it’s made up in the first place or edited. But pls let’s vilify a person for saying or making a choice once in their lives that we don’t have any real clue about.
