Footage of excerpts of the visit of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain to the British colony of Nigeria between 28 January-16 February 1956. Nigeria was four years from becoming an independent nation.
The title of the Gaumont newsreel was "Queen Sees War Canoes".
Highlighted in the newsreel was the Queen's visit to parts of the cities of Port Harcourt and Lagos.
At Port Harcourt she watched a regatta of war canoes, and still in the Eastern Region, visited the Oji River Leprosy Settlement.
In Lagos she inaugurated the Apapa Wharf extension and visited Racecourse where she and the Duke of Edinbirgh were greeted by a crowd of 30,000 which included many school children.
Among her investitures was the knighting of Samuel Manuwa, the Chief Medical Adviser to the federation.
