It was Freddie who encouraged John to write songs and contribute more because he was so shy. Freddie understood that about John because Freddie himself was painfully shy. John was quoted as saying, ' there is only one Freddie, and it's impossible to replace him.' So basically no Freddie, no Queen.

I have always felt that "Innuendo" was written as a farewell album, and this heartbreaking video really only confirmed that for me. The band was trying so hard to act like everything was fine, but you can hear the uncertainty in their voices. The moment where Roger admitted to wanting to "Take a break musically..." He was planning ahead, knowing that he and the band would soon need a break from their adoring fans to there for Freddie. Brian has said that "The Show Must Go On" was written to reflect how Freddie must have felt at this point in their lives, and I think it does a great job at that. "These Are the Days of Our Lives" is incredibly nostalgic, it's somber tones perfectly representing the "glad it happened, sad it's over" point of view. Over all, this album is a true masterpiece. Roger was right when he said it was one of the best things Queen had ever done; it is truly so bittersweet.

No, AZT was already out, and that was likely one of the things that did him in. The song 'I'm going slightly mad' is effectively a testament to the damage it does to the brain and results in people losing track of their thoughts and inability to coherently express and remember things, among many other direct effects. AZT was a catastrophe, which you can easily see if you read the medical literature, but doctors saw only what they wanted to see, and pharmaceutical companies were happy to supply that and similarly toxic drugs. Even Freddie's own doctor admitted years later that the early medications were 'a mistake'. At Thabo Mbeki's presidential AIDS commission, both dissenting and orthodox sides agreed unanimously that AZT had unnecessarily killed a lot of people. As for Magic Johnson, he started taking it and rapidly had to give up basketball, and then after a while suddenly got better and remained well since. His ability to perform like he subsequently did would just not have been possible while taking AZT - it is absolutely crippling. The only ones who survived the early days were those who DIDN'T take AZT. Hence the saying, "There's no magic in AZT, and no AZT in Magic". I know of one guy who was on an AZT trial, and concluded that it was killing him, but it was psychologically very difficult to stop taking it when doctors had said it would save his life - and that's what many people find: If a doctor says you must take this to save your life, it's very hard to disobey, and many people were not able to stop taking it right up to their deaths. But he did, and he's now pretty sure he's the only one that survived from that group.

This post is for real Queen fans only: I think the most understated, underrated and least appreciated bassist in all Rock 'n' Roll is John Deacon. Queen could not have done what they did without him. He laid a foundation like no other could. He lent them the platform they leapt from. I can toss out some names: Paul McCartney, the originalist (he both defined and perfected the style); Jermaine Jackson, the grooviest; Bootsie Collins, the funkiest; Stu Hamm, the futurist; John Patitucci, the jazziest; Billy Sheehan, the technichalist; Stanley Clark, the granddaddyist of them all. All that shit put together hardly holds a candle to 'another one bites the dust'. So pure. Look it up, listen again, every 2 measures he changes the riff, never plays the exact same 8 notes in a row twice throughout but displays the illusion of doing so constantly. Simplicity and complexity wound together. Then look up 'dragon attack', where he straight lays it down. After that, listen to anything by Queen and try to tell me you can't hear John holding it all together. Best R&R vocalist ever? Freddie, duh. The queen. Greatest, most influential guitarist alive? Well, that would probably be Brian. Coolest singing drummer? Let's see, there's Phil and Don and that guy from the Dead, but no. It must be Roger because I really am in love with my car. (I got a classic 4x4.) Greatest bassist, then? Kidding? Do the math... =John Deacon

As I read comments in regards to this video and Queen, I notice there are a few people who are still taking jabs at both Brian May and Roger Taylor for their choice to keep Queen's legacy alive and well, while John stands back. His choice to walk away was his own and he didn't fault Brian and Roger for continuing. He moved on for many reasons, seeing no real urge or need to keep making music without Freddie- again his own choice and while grieving, both Brian and Roger felt the same. They had no intention of continuing but the fates put chances in their laps to share their music with younger generations. Never would any of the band think to use Freddie for their own financial gain at any time. Brian and Roger even talked with him regarding their solo careers before his death, always, always making sure to share ideas and never leave him in the dark, nor John. This band, to me has shown more loyalty over the years than any other ive come to love. They were and always will be a family. That being said, i truly believe that in some quiet, private location, John will spend an evening with Brian & Roger reminiscing maybe or just catching up. I don't think there is a rif in their friendship, i dont think hes still depressed. I think John simply wanted out- an accidental rockstar who never liked touring, nearly lost his own marriage and then lost the one person who gave him the courage to head on stage every show. God bless them all, the amazing men they are ❤

Everyone of them is such an incredible genius in his very own and special way, talents, personality and much much more…. and to me this makes QUEEN so extraordinary brilliant outstanding and to me the best band the world has ever seen and heard! Almost every song is a masterpiece and thank god destiny brought the 4 of them together becoming legend forever. Even they’ve created so many very different songs I‘m not able to pick out a favorite….you guys helped me to deal with all emotions in my life ❤thanks and bless you for making millions of people happy ❤️❤️❤️❤️…“just turn yorself into anything you want to be-be free….“🙏🍀❤️

Freddie's voice is amazing in 'The Show Must Go On," hitting all those high notes, which he hadn't done in a few years, despite his illness. Jim Hutton's memoir notes that Freddie quit smoking around 1990. that may have helped.

Am I the only one who thinks if Freddie survived he would have a huge pile of BROADWAY musicals that he and the boys had written? He would have been an AMAZING story teller with his insight and talent. Incredibly SAD he died so young. Planet Earth lost a GENIUS.

Four friends who got together and lived a life they loved until one of them passed away. They protected each other and did everything to make sure everyone had equal input. It's no wonder the remaining three are trying to get back on the road again with Adam Lambert. They just love music.

John Deacon didn't do anything else with Queen after the video for No One But You in 1997. If you haven't seen it, you should. It's amazing and sad and a work of magic.
@michellecrippen29665 жыл бұрын
Mark Stanford Deacon said there is no Queen without Freddie and decided to retire. I can’t even imagine Deacy playing bass with AL Sure, Queen is still packing stadiums but I think the majority of fans are there to see May and Taylor. Not AL!! Freddie was flamboyant but in a classic way. Not feathers and glitter. Even if Freddie had lived, I don’t think he would have made it so open he was gay like AL does. Freddie had way too much class. Besides, he would have never given the press the overtly gay look AL gives because Freddie’s life was so private.

Props to Jim Beach. He’s always looking in the corner protecting the Queen brand. I saw Queen and Paul Rodgers in NY back in 06, their first date in America in over 20 years, and was smitten to see him wander out and watch the show from the side of the stage on floor level where I was standing. I wanted to say hi but was too nervous.
@godly37315 жыл бұрын
Tony Di Pietro It amuses me when people criticize the film for all these supposed inaccuracies, because the more you watch it, and the more you study Queen’s docs and interviews and autobiographical books, the more you see how accurate it actually is - with of course some artistic license for the sake of storyline and storytelling. Jim Beach’s portrayal in the film is exactly as you described him in your lovely words. Ever present, always in their corner, always protecting and shepherding Queen through every iteration and every challenge. I LOVE 💕 the scene where he stands in the wings with Prenter and Mary during that “BoRhap Live In Concert” scene and sings along as the song ends. Well played onscreen portrayal of who Jim Beach was and still is.

One of the greatest Queen albums ever. Freddie so brave...not at his best and still rocking the world with amazing performances and great sense of humor. Notice how he got thinner just from this Innuendo documentary to the filming of I'm going slightly mad and These are the days of our lives videos from the same album. Then still they made one of the best albums that year if not the best.

How these gents rallied together to create such a fantastic and meaningful album is a testament to not just their professional approach to their craft, but to their integrity as people.
