No...I think she was probably just prideful, or held too much power to NOT be corrupted by it. Like a Daenerys Targaryen type. The Lands Between thrived during her reign right? I don't think she was inherently evil. Though, the crusades against the Fire Giants and the Glintstone religion peeps should be looked at closer to say for sure. ....was eliminating them part of Marikia's plan, or the Greater Will's?

It's weird that you didn't mention the fact that Hewg, the blacksmith at the roundtable, mumbles to himself something like "Queen Marika, please forgive me, I haven't made a weapon that could kill God yet", which possibly hints to the fact that Marika was planning to overthrow the Greater Will and possibly other Outer Gods.

The Empyrean thing is a bit wonky in how it's worded in Malenia's Remembrance: "Miquella and Malenia are both the children of a single god. As such they are both Empyreans, but suffered afflictions from birth. One was cursed with eternal childhood, and the other harbored rot within." I don't think being born of a single god is required to be an Empyrean, but rather their afflictions are caused by that fact. That's why Ranni is still an Empyrean while being born of Renalla. There's also the Gloam-Eyed Queen we never met who is said to also be an Empyrean in the Black Flame Ritual incantation. Empyrean is probably just a demi-god with the potential to wield the Elden Ring.

I agree, I just updated the wiki as this misunderstanding that to be an Empyrean, you must be born of a single god is definitely confusing. I’ve heard people say Ranni is the adopted daughter of Rennala originally being from Marika and Radagon which has no evidence behind it.

One minor plot point that I think was a bit mistaken is that to be an Empyrean there's no real set rule set that says how people are born/become Empyreans, since Ranni is an Empyrean but is the child of Rennala and Radagon. There are several item descriptions that call Ranni the child of Rennala, and others that refer to her as a Princess of the Carian Royal Family. I also think Marika and Radagon used to be separate but then somewhere along the line they joined together. This seems to be the only thing that makes sense since I think the Queen disappearing for a long enough amount of time to have children with her greatest rival would have been noticed. That and in her bedroom you can hear Melina channel Marika's words and it says Radagon is "yet to become me" (Marika is the one speaking) and "let us join together" or something along those lines. I do however think that being the child of a single, joint pair of beings who both qualify as gods due to said joining all but guarantees someone become an Empyrean. The only issue with this is that this is apparently, technically, incest. And that's why Malenia and Miquella were both born with such gruesome deformities: Melania had turbo cancer and Miquella was physically stunted. There's also a possibility that all an Empyrean is is a person chosen by an Outer God. There's hints to there being an Outer God of Scarlet Rot that "blessed" Malenia and that the Full Moon that Rennala discovered is what chose to make Ranni its Empyrean. The only person chosen by an Outer God that isn't an Empyrean is Mohg, but that could be due to the Greater Will not liking the Mother of Truth that claimed him or just the Greater Will not liking Mohg since, you know, he's a graceless mutated abomination shunned by Grace. The only Empyrean that isn't blessed or claimed by an Outer God is Miquella, though considering he's developed magic needles that can banish the influence of Outer Gods shows he either told it to feck off or didn't have a divine patron to begin with. Miquella could have been chosen by the Greater Will itself as a potential replacement for Marika but I doubt it was disatisfied with her since there have been Empyreans before the current three that are in-game, and Marika killed them. Considering the twist of the final boss I'm pretty sure the Greater Will could have forced Marika to do just about anything it wanted with the sleeper agent it had literally inside her. Becoming a god seems to require receiving the sponsorship of an Outer God who then raises their Empyrean up to divinity, which is likely what the Rot and Moon gods were trying. Though why the Greater Will would allow Ranni, Miquella and Malenia to exist when they would essentially be bringing in foreign influence and giving foreign gods a foothold on a world the Greater Will has claimed is something I have no answer for. The final boss reflects the Greater Will's personality pretty well I think. It wants to keep control of this world and it isn't worried about who it has to bury or what it has to desecrate to do so. Its servant the Elden Beast, the true form of the Elden Ring itself, literally uses the corpse of its master's chosen champion as a sword and tries to murder you with it. Great video though, love how you've organized stuff here. I haven't seen many people cover Radagon and Marika together as a pair yet. Mostly they just talk about Marika and gloss over Radagon.

I was listening to another theory that was pretty awesome, and essentially it was basically Marika and radagon shared the same body, and when radagon was out and about, godwyn would take on the appearance Marika to continue rule in her stead. Then the night of black knives happens, and godwyn was there while Marika, as radagon, was with rennala. Marika was who ranni meant to target. because it was godwyn, and not Marika, an empyrean, ranni is left in the state she is. Thought it was a cool take. Good video!

1) Being born of a single God is not a prerequisite for Empyrean status, it just automatically grants it. They can simply be selected. 2) Including having a Shadow as a requirement is kind of silly, as all Empyreans are granted Shadows once selected. 3) Godrick is not the son of Godfrey and Marika. He is the distant descendant of Godwyn. Godefroy is also a distant descendant of Godwyn, and probably the ancestor of Godrick. They are members of the Golden Lineage, the descendants of Godwyn. All of the other members of the Golden Lineage died during the Night of the Black Knives or the Shattering and are now presumably among those interred in the Walking Mausoleums. Side Note: Gostoc is possibly Godrick's son and thus the true last of the Golden Lineage.

Look at the full-sized image of the Elden Ring. The top looks like the same crucifixions we see of Tarnished in-game and Marika's pose. Definitely a connection there. Below the Elden ring is a massive arc cupping the Ring, obviously what the Rune Arcs come from and the lower arc of what their description refers to. Now, look at the three rings of the Elden Ring. It's kind of confusing to look at, but as far as I can tell the rings meet each other at six points. Six Great Runes are what must be retrieved. Perhaps to re-connect these touching points.

This is my running theory on why Ranni lost her body and not her soul, while Goldwyn lost his soul but not his body. Both Goldwyn and Ranni have half of the curse mark of death on them. Obviously something about them dying at the same time ties them together. I believe that for Ranni to keep her soul alive, there was someone else who needed to sacrifice their soul in her place. However, since her body was killed in the process, there wasn't a body that needed to be taken when Goldwyn was killed. So there was only technically one "full" death that occurred, when you think of it as only one body and one soul dying on the Night of Black Knives. It just so happens that the soul and body came from two different people. So I just saw your video on Ranni lol. Seems like I came up with a pretty similar theory as you before I heard your theory. Neat!

I echo the sentiment that Radagon has the Seal of Order - and as such is the progenitor of Golden Order Fundamentalism - what I found more difficult to reconcile with that belief, is why he fell in love with Rennala, of the Moon. It seemed so out of Order, and not true to his Rune's sake. That is, untila thought occured to me - Even in the natural cycle of Order, the Sun and Moon come together momentarily, creating an Eclipse before inevitably separating. If Rennala represents the Moon, and Radagon the Sun, then it is perfectly balanced as all things should be. The moon and sun are often romanticized together, and it is evident in Miyazaki's work he is enamoured with that duality. In Dark Souls, with characters like Solaire, and Dark Moon Gwyndolyn, his love for the duality between a light and darkness is evident. And in this case, especially, as an aspect of sun and moon coming together: they create twilight - Ranni. Radagon gives Rennala the Amber Egg when he leaves for Marika. Amber. Seluhvis asks for an Amber Starlight Shard as it is said to be able to control a Demi-God, he tries to use it on Ranni but it doesn't work. Amber must have some property of the Greater Will, or even be a fragment of it. All of this adds up. How is Rennala Ranni's mother? Adoption. Or as a Surrogate. Radagon birthed Ranni, likely using the Mending Rune of the Unborn, and Rennala hatched it. Ranni was likely born of an Amber Egg (Perhaps all Empyreans are born this way.), just as what Rennala clings to, hence why the Amber shard does not affect her. And being born of Amber, this is why she needs to kill herself. To usurp control of her will from the Greater Will itself and pursue twilight. Ranni was not born of two parents, but created by one God. With her destined path tied to the twilight she represents - her ending quite literally eclipses the sun, bringing this duality into perfect balance, and ushering in a new age. Not of light, or darkness. I also have to add - that perhaps The Greater Will and the Full Moon, each different worshipped Gods, are themselves one split being such as Marika and Radagon. And then we have the mystery of Godwyn. I surmise the rune of death is meant to kill body and soul. But Godwyn's soul died, whereas Ranni's body died. A necessary sacrifice. Orchestrated by Ranni as a way to attain true freedom. To free herself without killing her soul. This is another thing common in Japanese RPG's - the idea of a "True Ending" representative of True Freedom. The Persona games and Catherine as well as others all have this common thread. Ranni's ending is True Freedom. The Lands Between? Between what? The Sun and the Moon? Death was removed by Marika. The Stars frozen by Redahn. Time stands still. Stagnancy. Ranni being the proverbial child of the eclipse removes the space between the sun and moon, bringing them together and forgoing "The Lands Between" the cycle between night and day, broken at last.

I have this theory that ties Ranni to Miquella and it’s brought much of the story together. It starts with the The Beast Eye. “Claw-marked stone eye received from Gurranq, Beast Clergyman. It is said to tremble when near Deathroot. The murky violet iris writhes as if alive.
"I am not sated... Feed me more...Death..." I personally believe that the Item description is the key to tying it to the Dusk/Gloam eyed queen aka Marika the eternal. The short version is that judging from Iji and Ranni’s dialogue, we know that when each Empyrean are chosen by their two fingers, they are given a shadow that will betray them if they should ever go against the Greater Will. When Marika began to plot against the Greater Will, I believe Maliketh used Marika’s own Great Rune, Destined Death, against her and took the eye after impaling her with the crimson spear you see in the final arena. It would explain why her corpse is missing her left eye, why the eye has a claw mark, and is surrounded by Marika’s stony flesh. This eye could very well have been passed down to some of her children as well. Melina- she reveals to have the same eye, on the same side of her face, in the lord of frenzy ending. Malenia - obviously this is pure speculation but I think the rot that covers her eyes was an intentional creative decision to hide this very secret. Miquella - maybe we’ll find out in the DLC Ranni - It’s hard to tie Ranni with being a daughter to Marika but she does possess the same Gloam colored eye in the exact same pupil. I believe Ranni’s pupil color that she never opens is Golden and that’s basing it from Melina. In fact, the golden color from Melinas right eye only changes to white in the flame of frenzy ending, after the golden order is no more and grace is gone. Shortly after I had another big theory that began with Torrent, that’s right. Particularly about who the former master might be. “A delicate goldwork ring. Can be used as a finger whistle.” I scratched my head on that question for a bit and it lead me to two candidates. First one is Miquella. Second is Ranni. I’ll make some points that back up both of these contenders: Miquella: The spectral steed whistle is made of a delicate “goldwork”. I didn’t think much of it at first but after seeing the flame of frenzy ending, I’ve speculated that the material is Unalloyed Gold. This is backed by the fact that the whistle is still intact after the flame of frenzy is unleashed. We know that Miquella’s needle is made from the same material and has the properties to ward away the effects of the flame of frenzy and rot, which both originate from outer gods. Ranni: This one is less likely but upon inspecting Ranni’s discarded Empyrean flesh, you can see that she had red hair and is missing a 🦶 much like how Radahn is missing both feet. In fact, all of the red haired demigods are crippled in the same way and use some kind of crutch to help them get around(Malenia with her prosthetic feet and Radahn with his gravitational powers). It might have something to do with the Curse of the Fire Giant….hmmm….but I digress, I speculated what Leonard is to Radahn, Torrent was to Ranni before she became a doll. Shortly after, I started to my formulate my craziest theory in the game and the more I played with it, the more everything began to tie in a bow. Ranni WAS Miquella. I’ll try to explain with my biggest points: 1.I believe that the Amber Egg Radagon gave to Rennala contains the Great Rune of Miquella. I also believe that Rennala is trying to rebirth Miquella using the rune. Juvenile Scholar Cap Reads: Yet their rebirth is not without imperfections, and thus do they repeat the process, eventually becoming utterly dependent upon it. I speculate that the “imperfections” are happening because of Miquella’s curse(eternal childhood) and until it’s perfected, Ranni(Miquella) will continue to inhabit the doll. Backing up my previous theory, this would also explain why they all have gold/dusk eyes. 2.Another supporting evidence is by looking at the rune of the unborn, then looking at Malenia’s. In order for it to make sense I have to mention another of my biggest theories and that is Marika and Radagon were born twins, had their children before becoming one, and most of their children are born twins as well. This is backed up by the fact that every Great Rune in the game bears a striking resemblance to their twin counterpart. Malenia & Miquella(confirmed twins) Margitt & Mohg(confirmed twins) Rykard & Radahn The only one I can’t tie this to is Godrick but it is said he has distant relations and not a direct offspring. That country bumpkin. 3.Another key is Ranni’s discarded empyrean flesh. Obviously, it’s charred so it’s impossible to tell but I’d wager it looks like Malenia’s. The corpse has Malenia’s red hair and her stature, and she was crippled as well. Speaking of Malenia, this would be a good explanation as to why she went to Caelid to challenge Radahn and be desperate enough to nuke the place with her scarlet rot. She was serving Miquella(Ranni). 4.There are item descriptions that reveal that Miquella used to be a golden order fundamentalist, but I believe he/she switched sides after her and all of her sibling demigods were born with curses and were expected to follow the Greater Will, but I think the breaking point was when Marika(the mother) fell and was betrayed by Maliketh(This would also explain how she and Iji know about the true nature of Blaidd) after possibly wanting to free her children. Miquella might’ve been chosen as the next heir(which would explain why Mohg wanted to be his/her consort) but instead decided to create her own fate following Rennala’s teachings about the moon but in order for her to set herself and her siblings free, she would have to slay their two fingers(Finger Reader Crone, Liurnia) which I believe she did but before she could get to her own they retreated to the stars and are being protected by Radahn. 5.After becoming her consort, Ranni says that her age will not be of “gold” but the “stars”. Miquella is heavily tied to gold and the properties it possesess to ward away the influence of the outer gods especially once it’s unalloyed. This is backed up by using miquellas needle to rid ourselves of the flame of frenzy, Malenia prosthetics, and Torrents whistle. In fact, all of Ranni’s entourage can be seen wearing unalloyed gold. 6.Everyone speculated that Miquella has ties to and St. Trina’s gender is open to interpretation. In fact, the item description in the Sword of St. Trina states that he could’ve been a boy or girl. St. Trina is heavily tied to sleep and there is an instance in the game where Ranni enters a deep slumber at the same time as Rogier after he asks you to retrieve her curse mark and she murders the dude in his sleep for prying too much *shivers*. I believe she takes the form of St. Trina when she is dream phasing. Also, the juveniles in Rennala’s fight sing about sleep. 7.The Miquellean straight sword is modeled after the carian sword but it has amber(just like the egg) instead of Glinstone and the real Loretta can be found at the haligtree tying Caria to Miquella as well. In fact, I personally believe the Albinauric’s(all generations) are Miquellas(Ranni’s) subjects. This would explain why half of the haligtree Medalion is in the Albinauric village right under Ranni’s moon realm. Coincidence? 8.In Castle Sol, there is a ghost that talks about Miquella’s Eclipse, which is pretty symbolic to Ranni’s destiny(moon taking over the sun) 9.In her ending, before she brings about the age of the stars, the way she holds Marika’s(her true mother)head makes it seem like she’s making a vow to her to not be influenced by the outer gods anymore, but to prosper with true freedom and she chooses you to be her consort(Suck it Mohg) That’s my interpretation anyways. 10.Finally, Ranni do sound like a child and that she tiny I may have missed something but those are my strongest points. The only things that could disprove this is Miquella’s cocoon in Mohg’s palace but I believe that it’s nothing but a husk. In fact the game eludes to this. And Ranni has dialogue where she talks about being chosen as Empyreans and she says I, Miquella, and Malenia. Could be she’s being tricky with her words in order to protect her TRUE identity(which she’s done before) but who can say.

Maybe being an imperian is based on a genetic trait, and it is less likely to be passed on normally. Inbreeding could possibly guarantee an imperium being born, but can also have other side effects. Not likely because most people don't know how genetics work, but it works well for me.

After the defeat of Radahn, the stars return and Ranni's questline kicks it up a notch. The Greater Will, through its machinations, has influenced Marika and her brood into creating an isolated world, away from cosmic powers, where the greater will can exist unchallenged and unthreatened. I think the very act of isolating the world proved that the Greater Will is, at its core, no different than other beings - mortal, afraid of its inevitable demise. Its name is also a clue - it is not superlative, there is a greatest will out there. The Greater Will fears the one thing that cannot be escaped, not by space nor time - entropy. It knows its time is limited, and a being or force of that stature would have to consider the fact that universal entropy would take it out eventually.
@InfernalBl4dez
@InfernalBl4dez 2 жыл бұрын
The Hyetta questline states that the Greater Will is an Outer god who created the universe, so not particularly mortal or afraid, it just seeks control of its creation from outside the universe that it cannot enter directly (hence 'outer' god) and seeks to stop other outer gods from influencing its sandbox. Infact theres also an implication by hyetta that the Greater Will created the universe from a separate being called the One Great, and the outer gods are just vying for influence over this universe created from the One Great's corpse, with the Frenzied flame seeking to return to the universe back into it's original form as the One Great.

You're missing / Wrong about a lot here 1. Numen isn't just "A land outside the lands between". Numen is a word that means "Divine" or "Divinity" and character creation states the Numen as said to be descendants from beings of another world. The Numen aren't simply other people, they're the offspring of otherworldly divinity. 2. Empyreans are NOT children of a single god as Ranni was an empyrean and born of Radagon and Rennala. Empyreans are simply those chosen as candidates by the greater will. The idea that they had to be children of a single god is never stated or even implied. In fact, Ranni's quote of "Of the demigods, only I, Miquella, and Malenia could claim the title (of empyrean)" Leaves room for there being OTHER, non-demigod Empyreans. 3. The "Shadows" granted to Empyreans are not a quality they must have, its something ENFORCED by the Greater Will. Ranni states that Blaidd was granted to her by the two fingers and we see a pattern of this among Empyreans. Maliketh was likely put into his position by the Two fingers, just as Serosh was with Godfrey. You'll note that both Merika and Godfrey eventually betray/abandon their Beastial shadows while Ranni hunts down other shadows sent to kill her. 4. Empyreans having a consort was never mentioned as a required quality. In fact the required qualities to be an Empyrean were never mentioned. 5.You're making assumptions about the timeline that do not seem to have any evidence. We know Godfrey fought the giants but we have no evidence that Radagon was even around at that point in time. We know only that Godfrey and Radagon coexisted at some point, not when that started. In fact I can find no lore stating Radagon fought the giants. 6.Nor does the giant whip state he was cursed with red hair, only that he despised his red hair because it resembled the hair of the giants. The phrase "Perhaps it was a curse of their kind" is ambiguous because "Their" could refer to the giants alone or to both Radagon AND the giants. The japanese translation is likely different as well. We have no evidence he used to have golden hair. 7. The Carians didn't just worship the moon. They Worshiped the Lord of Night, just as the Nox of the eternal cities did. And the Lord of Night (As we see with the finger slayer blade) stands against the Greater Will. Ranni's questline revolves around her attempting to supplant the Greater will and replace it with the Lord of Night, just as the various other endings attempt to replace the greater will with other outer gods such as the Frenzied Flame and the Formless Mother. 8. Merika's banishment of Godfrey was part of a greater plan. Melina quotes her as saying " My Lord, and thy warriors. I divest each of thee of thy grace. With thine eyes dimmed, ye will be driven from the Lands Between. Ye will wage war in a land afar, where ye will live, and die. Then, after thy death, I will give back what I once claimed. Return to the Lands Between, wage war, and brandish the Elden Ring. Grow strong in the face of death. Warriors of my lord. Lord Godfrey." 9. Radagon's marriage with Rennala being out of love is questionable. Consider the state in which he left her and the fact that his marriage resulted in the crushing of a possible rebellion against the golden order. Also, important to remember, that Radagon may have simply been using her knowledge as a path towards greater understanding of the Golden Order, as his Golden Order Fundamentalism incantations require both Int and faith. 10. Ranni did not "Have herself killed". This is entirely wrong and both Ranni and Rogier's dialog prove it. Ranni's death was the result of being inflicted with the rune of death as part of the ritual to create the black knives. In order to create the knives, she was inflicted with destined death. In order to escape this fate, she cast aside her flesh and inhabited the doll instead.

One thing i am certain of is that Melina and Rani are the same person/entity - the Empyrian which has had its doubled existence split after their body was destroyed. Not only does one of the endings suggest that very overtly, so does the fact that Renna's second face is attached to her doll head exactly where Melina's "damaged" eye is. Not sure what the 3 fingers have to do with that, thought i assume one of them if not both, saw the flame of Frenzy but i'd love to hear anyone else's take on this hypothesis.

I think that an Empyrean is something more than being born from one god. For me, I think that the Empyreans aren't totally being born from one god, but instead, they are _chosen_ by a god to be their vessels, especifically, an Outer God. Marika was literally the vessel of the Elden Ring, which is basically the Greater Will, and that's why she had the Ring fused with herself. That's why also Ranni was considered an Empyrean, not because of having one mother/father, but because she was the vessel of the Dark Moon, another Outer God related with the cosmos and sorcery. It also explains better Malenia's scenario: she had the Scarlet Rot not because of a curse per se but instead because she was the host of the Outer God of Rot (which is mentioned in many objects that states that's the Scarlet Rot is something from an Outer God). Highlight that Mohg is also the host/Empyrean of the Mother of Truth/Formless Mother, essentially, the Outer God of Blood, and his incantations are basically tearing dimensions to make her bleed. However, I think that being born from only one parent with divine attributes also triggers the condition of turning into Empyrean, and so that's why it also says that they are born from only one god. However, that last thing is another interpretation.
@jamescalder5115

That was exactly my understanding of Empyrean - People are focussing too heavily on Miquella and Malenia being born from a single god. When Ranni tells us that she was an Empyrean because she was one of 3 people who were chosen by the 2 fingers to ascend to godhood and replace Marika. Although I do not agree that Mohg is a host and that instead the reason why he has said power is because of Miquella - Yes while his blood ignited upon seeing the Formless Mother I believe this was because much like Blaidd he became a Vassal hence his obsession with Miquella and why he eventually went to cut him out of the Haligtree because the Formless Mother told him to... In the same way that Blaidd is a vassal and was given power over Ice and is a wolf. But eventually descends into madness declaring that he cannot betray Ranni, etc because she is part of him. I believe that Mohg is a Vassal for the Formless Mother and has been instructed to protect Miquella - Who is an Empyrean of the outer gods.

What an awesome explaination. My mind was to dumb to understand what is happening in elden ring lol. By the way, I have a theory that elden ring and dark souls are connected (by a thread). Do you remember the Everlasting dragons of dark souls, who is said to be immortal because of their stone scales? You can read it in the dragonwound grease item description in elden ring which says as follows: "_Solidified grease made from a mixture of Gravel Stones. Coats armament, granting anti-dragon effects. When dragons were borne from their ancient kin, they lost their stone scales, which can now be used to cause them mortal harm_." And from the dragonscale blade that said: "A weapon made by sharpening a Gravel Stone scale, thought to be the source of ancient dragon immortality, into an unclouded blade." So apparently the ancient dragons of elden ring, just like dark souls also has their immortality from their stone scales until they lost their stone scales from something. Probably from Lord Gwyn's great dragon war. That's just my theory though.

Radagon wasn't originally part of Merika, they fused/married well after Merika had her children with Godfrey. Radagon was most likely another Empyrean or from the lands of Numen, or possibly (and more interestingly) had a Patron outside of the Greater Will, because he had his own great rune that was separate from the Elden Ring, and Merika added it to her runes that she got from the Elden Ring. Especially since Radagon was his own leader and person with his own history before they were joined, because it was their Marriage that united Carion with the Golden Order. The reason I think this is because the Lands Between seems to be a battling ground of multiple different gods and entities vying for control. You had Nokron with the Ancestral Beasts (godly entities from outside the lands between) and the Fire Giants with their own god, and other entities trying to get a foothold. Radahn also potentially came from Nokron as his equipment descriptions and armor style is based on Nokron's style, and Radahn grew up in Nokron, perhaps a child of alliance's between Merika and Nokron. As the city of Nokron seemed to have other halfbreeds like the Human/Dragon hybrids that you have to fight, and other crazy things like that. Also, the fact that Radagon produced Ranni (who is an empyrean, and is capable of ascending to full godhood if you choose her ending) she doesn't need a shadow or consort, you are an equal since you hold all of the Elden Runes, she ascends to godhood and you are considered an equal to her with all of the elden runes.The only way Ranni is Empyrean is that she was produced of 1 god, and that god being Radagon, and with her being able to ascend without the limitations put on Merika when she tried to ascend to godhood and become the holder of the elden ring under the Greater Will's influence shows that Ranni is different from Merika. Ranni doesn't have a flesh body and thus the 2 fingers can't corrupt her, but she is capable of subverting/ignoring the greater will's power on the Lands Between after the destruction of the Erd Tree to place her own power structures in place. And you (the Elden Lord) have taken off ALL other pieces the Greater Will might have had to threaten Ranni, because the Greater Will itself has disowned the demi-gods that held the runes. Ranni's creation might have been influenced by Rennala but she was still born of one god. Also, in your own video you talk about how Radagon CREATED an Elden Rune, if Radagon was a fragment of Merika, he would not be capable of producing Great Runes himself becuase he would not be strong enough. Otherwise the other demigods like Radahn would also be capable of producing their own great runes since they had parts of the elden ring. But they cant. Only gods can produce Great Runes. And there are only 2 Empyreans : Melania and Ranni. I think both were backup plans for each of the gods. Ranni as Radagon's back up plan to create new order that didnt rely on the Greater Will or its "golden order", influenced by his time with Rennala. And Melania, being Merika's backup plan in case the Greater Will decided end her own plans. Of which Melania not being sure what the mission is, but also being without a body (just like Ranni) which prevents either of them from being influenced by the 2 fingers (the greater will) because they cant be corrupted by the machinations of the outer god. The primary reason I think this is because if you choose the Fire/Chaos ending, Melania vows to destroy you for screwing up Merika's plan and all the events after the burning of the ErdTree. Also, Radagon has 2 red wolves (from what I have seen in the game), 1 in Raya Lucaria, and 1 in Nokron. So there might have been some kind of double dealing between Nekron and Radagon/Merika.

I like the idea that after the Greater Will creates the tarnished to kill Marika, she just straight up seals the Erdtree as a last "Fuck you" to the Greater Will. I think she knows that a tarnished will eventually get there and when they do, they will have no choice but to commit the "Cardinal Sin" of the religion just to achieve the GWs purpose. I do think that the GW is well aware the tarnished will have to burn the tree though and doesn't really care!

SPOILERS (though, if you have seen the video, it really shouldn't matter) My theory as to why Malenia was out of the question as an empyrean successor when the shattering took place, is that it was because she was already a vessel for another outer god aside from the Greater Will: The Scarlet Rot. And since the Greater Will seems to be just as vain as Marika, it really did not care to share the rule of the Lands Between with its relative/enemy/acquaintance (?) Scarlet Rot, so Malenia flew out of the window as an option. I assume that is also the reason why it tried to kill Ranni with those Blaidd-esque shadow guys; 'cuz she served another outer god aside from the Greater Will. And if Mohg would have succeeded in his plot to ascend and enslave Miquella to the Formless Mother, Miquey would have also been erased as an option. Essentially, this makes the Tarnished the backup plan of a backup plan of a backup plan. We are literally the result of the Greater Will scraping the bottom of the barrel, that's why everyone treats our Tarnished, but also tarnished in general, like such trash. At least I imagine that's part of the reason. And since it's all the Greater Will's ego trip, alongside the other outer gods, including the Frenzied Flame, who, as Team America once so eloquently put it "just wants to shit all over everything", Golden Mask came to the conclusion that the whole system was rigged and fucked beyond repair. In response, Golden Mask devised a mending rune of perfect order that would make the Elden Ring an entity that could function indepently of any interference from any being whatsoever, which is what happens in the Age of Order ending.

Personally, I think that Radagon and Marika are indeed the same person and the same body, as we see in the lands between mimic spells aren't that uncommon, (Ranni mimicking Renalla to protect her) who's to say that Radagon isn't just simply just an alter ego, (maybe even quite possibly a fragmented personality) for Marika to escape her duties as the 'Queen' and 'The Eternal' and simply be free. By pretending to be a huge golden order lackey to obscure the view of the Greater Will and work as a double agent, she could use this alter ego to act as she pleases, telling her emperyan daughters to bring about the destruction of the two fingers and an age she mistekenly created. She felt like a slave to order, so was her curse, which brings me to the point, the essence of what Elden Ring is. Freedom. Massive freedom in a world that has been tarnished by the ones supposed to keep it alive, freedom to fix the world the way you see fit. Going down in history as one of my favorite boss fights ever.

My guess as to why Miquella and Malenia are cursed is that them being Empyrians makes them susceptible to the influence of outer gods. Marika is said to be one (if I remember correctly) and all Empyrians in the game have a connection to an outer god. Malenia is cursed with the rot inside her and we later find out about an outer god that is the embodiment of rot sealed in the Grand Cloister. Miquella is connected to the "formless mother" outer god (though that just be through Mhog) and Ranni is supposed to become the next Elden Ring vessel aka the greater will (and maybe also the moon outer god in her ending?). And of course Marika is shackled to the greater will too. So the curse of the twins is maybe just the manifestation of their connection to their respective outer god.

Purely speculation. Ranni might be born from the egg that Radagon gave Renalla. Hence why she is empyrean. That egg has a great rune too. Also, maybe that's why Renalla keeps saying something like she will rebirth Ranni with the egg. Melina could even be a successful product with all the others in the grand library being failures. As for Godwyn, he might have been killed so that both Ranni's body and his soul will add up to form a complete death. Hence, why the cursemark of death was split between Ranni and Godwyn. So, without killing Godwyn's soul, Ranni may have had to lose her soul to complete the death. No idea who ordered Godwyn's death but it could be Ranni or maybe even Marika herself assuming we don't trust the narration (i.e. it's possible just like how the news may not report or may report wrongly the full details of an event). If Marika is truly selfish and wants out of the system of being controlled, she might have supported Ranni by making the ultimate sacrifice and then regretted it or felt guilty and caused the shattering.

I am not so sure, if Marika and Radagon are in the same body. I see hints for Radagon being in Godwyn's (the Golden) body: 1. In the intro, his back (with the knife in it) looks a lot like Radagons back. 2. the spot, where Godwyn was stabbed, matches Radagons crumbled backpart of his body. 3. The cursemark Rune of Ranni (the centipede) says, that she lost her body and Godwyn lost his soul, from which I take, that his body was intact, thus usable by Marika as a vessel for her soul or part of her soul. 4. The possibility of splitting/transfering souls in other bodies is shown in Sellen's questline. So, what do you think?

@@MedtNERD I honestly don't have a good explanation for why there are two death faces/masks/whatever it is you find below Stormveil and at the Erdtree roots. But the descriptions of items relating to the Prince of Death are very clear. Form the Remembrance of Lichdragon Fortissax: "After Godwyn the Golden became the Prince of Death, the ancient dragon fought long and hard agaisnt the Death within its companion." From the Prince of Death's Pustule (found under Stormveil): "It is said that this pustule came from the visage of the Prince of Death, he who used to be called Godwyn. As First Dead of the demigods, it's said he's buried deep under the capital, at the Erdtree's roots." Admittedly, the fact that the last text treats his resting place as hearsay does leave the door open to further interpretation but between this and the all the dialogue from Fia it seems unlikely to me that From is pulling the wool over our eyes here. As for Godwyn looking different in the trailer, it's not uncommon in FS games for characters to change appearance when a significant change happens within them. I also do take the trailer with a bit of salt as it has some other oddities (Ranni playing the unknowing commentator despite being directly involved with the events she talks about, for an example).

@@Nostradankus Yeah, Ranni pretending not to be involved struck me as weird as well. As to my theory, I think I have found a major flaw in it: Ranni, who was involved in the killing of Godwyn, had Radagon as her father. When Godwyn was slain, Radagon must have already been around then. So my theory, that Radagon was created by putting (part of) Marika's soul in Godwyns dead body , does not make sense then. Still, thanks for entertaining my train of thought and for your input. :)

It seems like those who know most about it, have no interest in, or loyalty to, the greater will. Marika tampers with the rune all she wants and destroys it as she wishes. Ranni destroys herself to have nothing to do with it. Gideon gave up on it and fights you after he realizes some truth. The greater will also seems very unreliable, as it still wants Marika as the ruler, regardless of what happened. But they also just stop communicating after youre denied entrance to the Erdtree. Fighting against the greater will seems like there's a good reason for. It acts like an unreliable person.

Godrick is not the son of Godrfrey and Marika. He's a descendent

Man imagine we fight Marika instead of Radaghon, like She using part elden ring A.K.A the great Runes by pulling it out of her one by one from its own shattering body as weapons

See, I'm starting to wonder if Marika's plan in shattering the Elden Ring was to do something similar to Ranni, to separate her soul from her physical form without actually dying, in order to escape the influence of the Greater Will. She just failed when Radagon used the power of his Great Rune to forge the two of them together into one being, weak and incomplete but still alive enough to be the vessel of the Golden Order (I have a related theory that before this they were more like normal twins, ala Malenia and Miquella, and maybe even ALL Empyreans are born with a twin with whom they share a single soul, so that they can make more Empyreans by procreating with one another, but anyway!) Perhaps it is even Marika reaching out and guiding the Tarnished and the Two Fingers now, NOT the Greater Will. She wants someone to come and finish what she started by releasing her from her body or maybe even killing her outright if necessary, while Radagon and the Elden Beast desperately attempt to stop this from happening. The Tarnished are too unpredictable. There's no way to know if they will uphold the status quo or overturn it entirely given the chance It still leaves the question of WHY Marika wants to do this though. What is her endgoal? Is it just freedom after being beholden to the Greater Will for so long? Or something more sinister? Which ending of the game was she hoping for??

I think marika is on are side bc we can spawned at her statues also I believe she stabbed herself than realizing that she couldn’t die she crucified herself bc radagon is apart of her and wants to stop u so in order to keep u safe from him she made it to where he couldn’t get to u but she also in turn couldn’t help u and also she crucified herself before ur arrival bc she knew that u were coming that’s why the statues are before the bosses and also why she did this is bc she knew she is immortal but ragadon isn’t so if the tarnished could get strong enough to fight ragadon and win she would be able to come back but also she may not be are friend but using us by having us take care of her problems and than just starting on a new plate but I don’t believe that but it is a possibility but also the reason she waited till ragadon was at the academy so when he was infused to her he wouldn’t have his wolf to help him fight us

"Radagon leal hound of the golden order. Thourt yet to become me. Thourt yet to become a god. Let us both be fractured. Mine other half." I believe many people have a big misconception when Radagon became Marika and just tunnel vision on the first thing we hear about their secrets without looking into the nuances. This story has been told wrong time and time again.
