I have always associated this song with Julia Roberts, eating pasta in Eat Pray Love. I never knew the real meaning behind this song. Thank you for making opera easy to understand and accessible to us. I see this song now in a whole different light 😂

Faut-il vraiment expliquer que par exemple le 7e sol est raté et déraillé ? Si vous n'avez pas d'oreille et si vous n'écoutez pas les vraies cantatrices, c'est difficile de comparer la partition de Mozart. Écoutez Edita Gruberova, par exemple. Mais pitié pas ça. Tout le monde a le droit de chanter, mais se mettre sur KZbin c'est s'exposer aux avis. Et là, cette charmante dame dans le rôle de la Reine de la nuit, c'est pas possible. Tu peux chanter fort ou gueuler, si la note est fausse, c'est horrible à l'oreille.

Writing in English, it’s easier for me: Hello again! I didn’t know what you thought was “horrible” & “false,” the Nigerian Nollywood concept or my singing. Thanks for taking the time to clarify (and also leave your previous comment). I am very pleased with how I sang this aria. The coloratura could definitely have been cleaner & more on pitch, I noticed that later, and I even thought about re-recording the video or using a different version where the coloratura was cleaner but I wasn’t as committed to the character. Ultimately, I decided to go with this version, because so what if the coloratura is not perfect? I prioritize communication, connecting to the audience & being the character over singing perfectly. To me, that’s what matters. If people want perfection, they could listen to a machine or a recording of Edita Gruberova, Diana Damrau. Why would they listen to me? Because of what I communicate, how I communicate & what I bring to the music and the character. That to me, is art. I am also especially proud of myself for even attempting this aria, I am “not supposed to” be able to sing it because it is not in my “fach.” Technically I am a lyric soprano. I didn’t even know I was singing high G’s that’s amazing! 😁 I only glanced at the sheet music and learned this aria mostly by ear in a few days. I did this deliberately, to help myself relax around making the aria “perfect.” The fach stuff etc. are just more silly rules that make opera even more inaccessible to the general public. Like this idea of a “real singer,” etc. Lol. No wonder people are turned off by opera and opera houses are struggling in the United States. I am a real singer. So is anyone who chooses to sing. Be it Edita Gruberova, Renee Fleming, Beyonce or that person singing karaoke in a bar, or you! 😊
