We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.
www.blackmount...
We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our KZbin channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

I think you missed the whole point of the nicot system and why people use it ..... I use it because I can't see into the cells to graft effectively and I'm pretty sure that's why the majority turn to it after trying to graft cells .....I don't think that there is any argument there at all it just is what it is !!! I agree it's a fiddly pain in the bum but it certainly easier than grafting when your eyes are rubbish , also you can get over 50 eggs in one 24 hour period if the queen is familiar with laying in it and that is a massive number compared to how many JZBZ cups you can fit on that frame 😮.... just opinion

A modification you’d appreciate is to make your side bars the same exact width as the top bar. This will greatly reduce the amount of bur combs that the bees commonly make around the cells with a cell bar frame that is as wide as you shown.

Attaching queen roller cage to cups with a little melted wax spread around the inside of the roller cage is quick and easy

If the bars won't hold the JZBZ cups, you can poor wax into the slot. I just dip the whole bar in wax and holds it more firmly in the frame (here in the US)

When I first started back in 2020 I got myself a JZBZ kit, but Didn't get a chance to use it... nor was it possible last year... SO! 3rd year's the charm, Got some nuc boxes and my hope is to go from 5 to 15 hives this year :D

Why not just forgo the roller-cages and make it a point to prioritize placing cells into mating nucs on day 10 or 12? That way, no need to worry about early immerging queens killing everyone? I could see maybe if doing thousands of queens at a time , but if your only using one cell builder, it seems to be simplistic.... Best of luck with your bees!!!

It's all about the jelly. All that gadget talk doesn't matter for making quality queens. The frame is too wide, the bars are too close to the top.. they will draw wax over cells.. that space under the bars should be over them. Just some of my gadget experiences

I make my own frames and drill holes for the cups, ive had trouble in the past with them dropping out of the slot. Never drop out of the hole though.

I use that set up, and simply put a bit of masking tape to hold the JZBZ cup in the hair roller cage. The incubator I use can be a but clunky when the door closes, so I'd rather not risk any of the balanced cups moving.

I feel the same way that you do. My mentor who was a pollinator gave me his system. He thought I might like to tinker with it. I saw him later in the season and he asked me what I thought about it. I told him that I found it to be more work than it was work. Grafting is so much easier.

I work in hawaii on one of the biggest queen production farm and we also use the JZBZ for thousands of queens every year. to secure the cup to the bar we use wax to stick it on. We also give the strong hives three bars (x15 cups) in one frame.

Great video thanks Laurence, so with the JZBZ system do you have to graft the 3 day old larvae or does the queen lay into the cup?

I couldn't get the Nicot system to work. I'm sure it was me, but not sure what I was doing wrong. Switched to grafting and the cloak board method, voila, instant success.

Planning to try my own queens this year. 70% of hives in Korea have experienced unexplained colony collapse. I ordered two nucs but the place I ordered them from lost most of their bees. I am just happy I haven't lost any of mine. Going to have to go self sustaining for a while....
