I had to ask the tournament director if en passant could be played in that scenario (pawn on the 6th rank vs a 2 rank pawn push). I was rated 1806. He wouldn't tell me. He said he's not allowed to give me advice. I was allowed to look through the rule book though. Luckily some nice bystander opened a rule book to the en passant page and it was clear. This was in an 1800+ section, so I was paired against an IM the first game... Yeah, not a good look and the tournament director was not nice about it. He was extremely condescending.

Looking for a Queen's gambit declined video as white. 4 videos in and I don't see it and the titles don't indicate this is for black. SMH If Queen's Gambit declined is this abysmal, then maybe there is no point in playing the gambit.
@DavidCook-pm4yfАй бұрын
If you want it from White's perspective you're looking for Queen's gambit. They should go through variations of both accepted and declined versions. The word "declined" in the title should be an indication that it is a video from the Black side.

I think the QGD is frankly terrible for mediocre players. Black stands passively and white often gets this free pawn storm on the kingside which Caruana can easily defend. But I as a frankly terrible player want to be that guy pushing those pawns and only thinking about my next lunch.

I have a little chess booklet that I got with a mini chess set that I bought many years ago from a school book orders catalog. It has a little section about openings and it has a page about the Queen’s Gambit. But for some reason, it shows and lists the moves for the QGD Marshall Defense. Weird right?
@WastrelWay3 ай бұрын
Yeah. I'm not sure there is such a thing. Edit: Oh, there is. Very suspicious.
@josueramirez72473 ай бұрын
@@WastrelWay yup it’s a dubious opening. I quote from it below: “The moves so far have been: 1. d4, d5 2.c4, Nf6 3. Nf3, e6. White has offered his c4 pawn. If Black takes it, then White simply moves e4 and controls the center, threatening to go further by moving to e5 or d5. Often Black declines the gambit and develops slowly instead. The continuation might be: 4. Nc3, Be7 5. Bg5, 0-0 6. e3, Nc6. White will castle queen’s side and place his queen on d2, ready to attack. Black will soon advance his queen’s-side pawns, starting with b5 and a5. Or Black will try to undermine White by attacking the d4 pawn with c5.”

Plz reply this rule why it not work?
@nickf314 ай бұрын
It's not en passant. The pawn doesn't move past another pawn when advancing its two squares where it could have been taken on the middle (missed) square. If you study the rule carefully you will get it
