Interesting opening. d2/d7 is usually considered a "bad" square for the queen's bishop... however, it does help shielding the king from checks and pins on the a5-e1 diagonal in case the center opens up and the c3 knight gets traded. This can often give white the necessary stability in the center to get away with such an early flank attack.
