I was blessed to see Queen live in Syracuse NY 1975 and this is my all time favorite bands, favorite frontman (Freddie Mercury) favorite songs and live performance.....ever! I totally enjoyed your reaction and your enthusiasm in Queen and believe me, once a Queenie, always a Queenie, I've been one 48 years and counting! 💙🌈👑

This performance is so captivating, that most of the reactors are fascinated by it. The song structure, Freddie's emotional singing and energetic piano playing, and then Brian with his "singing" guitar, gently drums and bass all these elements together made it so great. They were a band instead of Freddie Mercury and the Queen. Pls, check out Don't Stop Me Now.

Queen is unique and fascinating for many reasons - one major one is their exotic front man. Born is Zanzibar, went to an English boarding school in India until his family relocated to England when he was seventeen and that's where he earned an art degree. (my facts could be a little off). Freddie was a visual artist along with being a musician. You can find pics of his drawings (especially the ones of Jimi Hendrix) and fashion pieces online. He heavily influenced the band regarding stage presentation. In the early years it was all about the black and white. The outfit he's wearing here has wings - in mythology Mercury was the winged messenger of the gods. Presentation alone would not have turned them into the powerhouse band they eventually became. Hard work and exceptional talent did that. I love revisiting the 70s because I didn't pay much attention to Queen back then. I have a brother who saw them live twice (regrets, I have a few). Forgot to add - I am loving your reactions.

@@TheCottons Freddie's degree was in Graphic Design from Ealing College in London where he met Tim Staffell and they became friends. Tim was the lead singer and bass player in a group called Smile along with Brian May and Roger Taylor. Tim invited Freddie to watch Smile perform and Freddie was impressed by the group. He began following Smile whenever he could (he was in a different group called Wreckage out of Liverpool at the time). He became good friends with Roger and Brian. In fact, Freddie and Roger shared a flat and ran a booth in the Kensington Market in London selling "vintage clothing" together. They were poor college students who needed to eat. When Tim left Smile to join another (and more successful) group called Humpy Bong, Brian and Roger were so devastated that they considered quitting music. Their good friend Freddie talked them out of quitting and encouraged them to form a new group. Brian and Roger began looking for a new lead singer until Freddie informed them that who they needed was him. The problem was neither Brian nor Roger had actually heard Freddie sing. So they agreed to give him a chance and Brian booked a rehearsal hall at his University to audition Freddie. Roger claimed when he first heard Freddie he thought he sounded a bit like a billy goat (Freddie hadn't developed his singing to the point that he knew how to properly use his extremely fast and strong vibrato yet). Still, Freddie's singing did impress them but what really snowed them was his amazing stage presence. The Freddie they knew tended to be shy and reserved but onstage a different Freddie emerged. His confidence, chutzpah, and emotional presentation of each song shocked the heck out of them and they loved it. They formed a new group and Freddie insisted it must be called Queen (Glam rock was very big in London at the time). Brian and Roger didn't really like it but, as they soon learned, if Freddie REALLY wanted something, it was nearly impossible to deny him. He just had that way about him. Queen began looking for a bass player and went through 4 or 5 before they found 19-year-old, John Deacon. He not only had the technical skill to match theirs, but his personality meshed with the other three. Freddie, who was 5 years older, immediately took John under his wing and began mentoring him. John and Freddie developed a close big brother/little brother relationship that lasted until Freddie's death.

The beauty of the eras ... the 80's ... how relatable. This is 1 yr after your reaction you may never see this. I was birthing babies back in the 80's I really did all that earlier music - many live concerts. We didn't have cable TV so I didn't see the MTV that carried all the 80's music. Just had my scratchy car radio and 3 fussy kids. SO during the covid lockdown I really discovered KZbin , and all these reactions. Imagine my surprise with remastered remixed concert videos and a set of headphones!! I was reacting right along with all these youngsters!! Queen being my #1 how did I miss this surprise. I knew who Queen was, I knew their music but I had never 'heard' it like I can now! Likewise my #2 obsession became Dire Straits.

Brings back wonderful memories, this was my first time attending a Queen live performance and the the first time I saw them live at Hammersmith Oden , over the years I attended many Queen concerts, and Live Aid was a favourite concert in 1985 where there were 100,000 people and twined with a concert in Philadelphia also 100,000 people, all the best artists and bands at the time attended these concerts and Queen had a 20 minute slot at Live Aid and with there flamboyant performances stole the show, they proved they were the best band ever, 2 Billion people worldwide watched both concerts, on Facebook a few days ago Brian May and Rodger Taylor from Queen were thanking all the fans helping them Achieve 7 million albums sold for Queens Greatest Hits album in the Uk 🇬🇧 which makes the album the best selling album of all time ever in uk 🇬🇧, great reaction thanks 🙏

Great reaction! Yes, Freddie was not a dancer, but he was a great piano player as well. Rock artists don't dance, if they started doing doing dance moves on stage, the audience would have thrown them with bottles. The biggest aspect of rock music, is about playing your instruments and being a good musicians. You guys should check out Liar - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974.

It is true that Freddie couldn't really dance but the Royal Ballet of London didn't seem to care because in 1979, his friend Wayne Eagling, a choreographer and principal dancer for The Royal Ballet, asked Freddie to join them for a charity performance to be held at the London Coliseum to raise money for mentally handicapped children. Though he’s no dancer, Freddie rips around the stage with infectious energy-energy that hopefully raised a lot of money for charity that evening. At a time when the fusion of ballet and pop music wasn’t commonplace, it thrilled-and perhaps shocked-audiences. According to Freddie, “They had me practicing at the barre and all that, stretching my legs … trying to do things in a week that they’d been doing for years,” he told The London Evening News. “It was murder. After two days I was in agony. It was hurting me in places I didn’t know I had, dear.” Yes, there is a video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJmaYnakbb94sKc (Unfortunately, this clip doesn’t preserve the performance’s original audio, which featured a seamless blend of Mercury’s vocals and a live orchestral arrangement. )

MJ was a big fan of Freddie's and came to several of their concerts. Freddie and MJ worked on 3 songs together, and KZbin has 2 of their songs available. audio only. State of Shock is very good. At some point Freddie called his manager and said Michael is bringing his llama into the studio. Get me out of here The second one available is There Must Be More to Life Than This. The 3rd song Freddie worked on with him is Victory. Michael used the title for an album, and their joint work was never released. Michael encouraged the band to release John Deacon's song, Another One Bites the Dust as a single and it became their biggest US hit.
