Freddie could belt out a song then sing like this like an angel.

“You gotta listen to this one.” And they did, all 120,000+ of them. So beautiful. Freddie at the piano is always special. I would highly recommend my melancholy blues. Live in Houston is great, or the studio cut. Great reaction.

Thanks, Sandman -- his ability to silence the crowd is amazing... and this is beautiful, yet the album version is my favorite...

This is the most beautiful song and performance. Freddie had to do this alone because it hadn't been recorded yet so the others didn't know the song. I am okay with that, his voice is like a whisper on the wind. His vibrato gives me goosebumps and the audience is totally silent hanging on every note. Thank you for reacting to this song.

I loved your reaction to this wonderful song, you mention the great piano in this song, you should react to White Queen in Hammersmith a night at the odeon 1975, you won't regret it, Freddie kills with his skill on the piano and Brian on the guitar

Beside this being such a gorgeous ballad, I love his diction. "you can reduce me to tears". The vocals are so clear, and sweet. Thank you for reacting.

The studio version is also beautiful, it is longer , with perfect Freddie ´s harmonies and some surprises

I like how you point out the major and minor chord changes. I have always thought the end of the song gets a little stockerish and dark and then he softens it with a I love you. Well done is always, love your reactions.

The studio version is Freddie harmonies with himself, his voice is layered. Very very beautiful, both versions. Great reaction.

Thank you for sharing Queen with us! If you want to see Freddie and Brian at their very best, check out "White Queen" 1975 A night a the Odeon, Hammersmith. I guarentee you won't be disappointed! 🤗

Every time I watch this performance I think of that special someone that Freddie is trying to woo!! He truly is a “good old fashioned lover boy”. The reason Freddie sings it here (vulnerable for sure) is because that special someone was in the audience! Can you imagine!? OMG!! With one command of “you gotta listen to this one” and with a slight finger movement the crowd is hushed. Simply amazing 🤩

👏👏👏 Great reaction! Freddie ensured us a small insight into the soul of Farrokh Bulsara with a song that is able to touch everybody's heart. This lyric doesn't need anything more than Freddie’s voice and his piano play, it's so beautifully built up.

He goes into his chest voice for that one section when he gets gritty. Btw. You can hear a pin drop, amazingly from a free concert with people sitting in trees.

Very difficult to sing and play the piano together … the voice and the keys going in different lanes. So beautiful … and Freddie’s voice OMG

Great reaction as always, this a great surprise, since I think people usually suggest the more rocky Queen songs. This is obviously a pure ballad. Great observation about the dynamics in the piano playing, it is something that is very important to Freddie's piano playing. He really played around with loud and soft dynamics, not all pianist can really manage this. It is a big feature of for example Bohemian Rhapsody as well, some piano parts builds into louder and softer crescendos, it is not always easy to do for piano players. The song is actually based on the Japanese pentatonic scale. The studio version is quite different because the song is full of layered harmonies, in the studio Brain May also adds a layered guitar solo. You will sometimes find some of Brian May's best or most intelligent guitar solos on unexpected songs such as this, which you would not expect since it is such a slow song, he always added the perfect touch, and exactly what a song needed. By this time Queen had done some touring in Japan and they really loved Japan. The song is from the album A Day At The Races, Brian May also created a song especially for the Japanese fans on this album, it is a fan favourite of some people, Teo Torriatte - Queen. (Teo Torriatte was played at the opening ceremony of the recent Olympic games held in Japan). Japan really loved Queen, it was the first place that really embraced the band, even before their native Britain. They were treated like The Beatles in Japan. Hyde Park was the biggest concert that Queen had done up to this point, there was 130k people there, and by the end of the song it was deadly quiet. It can be very difficult for some people to sing in this breathy falsetto tone with a soft voice. It is somewhat of a contradiction, but as a singer you actually need a lot more air or breath support to sing these softer notes. It has to be done consistently as well, if many singers tried to sing like this they would run out of air. Freddie Mercury was also a master of using the right expression in his singing. His voice could really express whatever he wanted to convey, it could be playful and sinister, longing and sad, or just have pure joy and he could apply great delicacy or he could sing very strongly and powerfully with loads of attitude. He really had a talent for expressing very fine nuances in his voice. I always explain this by giving the example of reading a book to a child, you can just read the words, or can add surprise and shock when you see an exclamation point at the end of a sentence. You can hold someone's attention more when you use expressive reading and that is exactly how Freddie sang as well, far more so then the majority of singers. This is likely part of the reason why Freddie Mercury could really sing in every genre quite convincingly. Freddie Mercury made a whole solo album of duets with one of the best opera sopranos of all time, and she really praised his expression as well. Maybe you can check out a song from them, it is great music and great singing. People sometimes get very apprehensive when they hear the word 'opera', but everyone who reacts to it, loves it. It is classical in parts but it has a very contemporary twist. Check out, Barcelona - Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe' live at the Ku Club Ibiza 1987, this song was the theme song of the 1992 Olympic Games held in Barcelona, Spain.

Freddie lived on a theatrical balance beam when he performed...straight from the soul with an eye from the audience. A breathtaking combo when it works.
