The 2nd movement is so beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful, the 1st movement is more Chopin than Chopin himself. Overall, I enjoyed the playing, the instrument carried out the personality of this piece which I thought it wasn't there. Well done. 🎉

Wow what an amazing performance of this composition! He is comparable to Yo-Yo Ma and Jiang Wang who also studied in Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Naturally a good cellist but and this is a very common occurrence he doesn't necessarily hear what's coming out of his instrument as he's playing so he thinks all his emotions are pouring forth when an actuality they're not

Its the most prestigeous conquest for classical musicians, and he is so young. So it is a lot of pressure, he is playing in front of highly selected jury members. Its already an achievement to be part of the candidates. This is semi-finale or finale, so he is running for big contracts that will lounch his career.

He is a very good cellist, but he is not quite capturing the piece. I've played this myself, and it is a demanding work in terms of its dynamic shifts. He seems to slip easier into the more subdued portions, but does not explode the way he needs to when Chopin's power picks up. He also occasionally has shaky intonation (ever so slightly flat I think), and balance with the piano. I think it is his lack of confidence in his intonation that prevents him from really coming out during the more aggressive parts. Now all that said, he plays this far more magnificently than I could ever hope to. His phrasing is excellent, and on point. Many people in the first movement don't quite get the rhythm of the dotted eighths to triplets correct, and as a result the piano has to cover for them. He is remarkable and near flawless in moments of greater legato, and shows a great deal of maturity in how he handles his vibrato.
