He had got a staph infection after getting knee surgery (his immune system was shot from the drugs) and he was in a coma for a while. He almost died from choking on the tubes during the surgery and had to be shocked back from the brink of death, after which he spent two months in hospital with a tube in his knee. Like clockwork has a lot of references to it, the song I appear missing is entirely about it

the medication story is correct. this explains his drunkenness and also the cane that all of you seem to miss in your attempt to congratulate him on recreational drugs. it's an injury he had for a really long time actually. he has the cane in part of Over the Years and Through the Woods as well. ... pretty sure this is the same injury that almost killed him in surgery during the recording of Like Clockwork. but yea ... hooray "stoner rock" and all that.

You can just use power chords. It is B - C - D# for the main rhythm. When he gets to "The thing that's real for us..." part it is F - F - D# - D# - B - B - A - B - A - B. The part's such as "It used to be the plan was screwing the ... " it is just B eight times, D eight times. The chorus of the song, "It's truly a lie..." is G - F#/D - A - E. Again, use all power chords. The F#/D on the top 3 strings would be 2 - 5 - 4.

"It used to be"and "high and mighty" is actually b b b b b b b b c d# d# d# d# d# d# d# Also those chords are no power chords but octave chords, for example 7-X-9 for the "b" on the lowest 3 strings, you have to mute the a string with your finger. Basically you just shove that pattern up and down in that part. The chorus is just g - f# - a - e, all major (not power) chords, simple as that. The second chord of this part sounds tricky in the studio version because of the lead guitar fills, it's more obvious in live recordings. The main riff also consists of major chords instead of power chords. The rest that was mentioned by the guy above me seems right.
