Queensryche (pronounced queens-rike) has a deep catalog of material. I would put Geoff Tate in the top five best metal vocalists of all time. The band behind him are Scott Rockenfield (drums), Eddie Jackson (bass), and Michael Wilton/Chris DeGarmo (guitars). Their 3rd album, Operation Mindcrime, is one of the best concept albums ever written with a storyline that's just as relevant today as it was when it released 36 years ago. I hope you revisit Queensryche again soon. Start with their earlier material Queen of the Ryche, Walk in the Shadows, Screaming in Digital, I Will Remember (MTV unplugged live version is outstanding), then consider a full album reaction to Operation Mindcrime.

Originally, the band was called The Mob. But, when they found out another band was already using the name, they needed to come up with another one. Since one of their first songs from their first EP was called Queen Of The Reich, they decided to use a modified version of the song name as the band's name. It too is an amazing example of Geoff's exceptional vocal range, if you want to check that out too.

I had to stop and hit the like gorgeous. I saw Queensryche on the Empire tour. Geoff Tate is an incredible vocalist. He can go as low as he can go high. Nobody ever had better range as a male anyway.

You have just stumbled into one of the very best bands of the 80s. They are NOT a hair band, but a classic heavy metal band with the amazing Geoff Tate on lead vocals. The band behind him is just as good, the made 3 of my favorite albums ever in Warning, Operation Mindcrime and Empire. For another tune from them, do On the Road to Madness, a great epic that will surprise you further. These guys r pure FIRE! Destroyed 2 CD’s of this album cuz I listened to them all the time! Some of the Tate family still live in my little small town and a friend of mine went to middle school with Geoff (Jeff is how he spelled his name back then) for a short time back in the 70’s. I’ve followed them ever since they blasted onto the scene. BEST VOCALS!

Most people think that heavy metal all they do is scream and yell can you hear a singer like this and the look on your face when he did that E5 when he first started to go up at the beginning was priceless a lot of songs you need to check out are all of them off the operation Minecraft album from a couple years later like the song operation mindcrime revolution calling eyes of a stranger empire of the album of the same name jet City woman best I can save albums and for the quiet side silent lucidity I can go on forever and great song cuz this is by far one of my favorite band

Geoff Tate is definitely an excellent rock/metal singer in the old school vein- very melodic and professionally trained. The band is considered progressive metal and their songs are way above average in terms of composition and musicianship. One of the more accomplished groups in heavy metal.

Geoff’s voice was officially analyzed from F#1 to G#5, making him a 4 octave vocalist (plus some semitones) and nowhere near a 7 octave range. He was a natural baritone who pushed his mixed register up into the 5th octave. He claimed, more than once, in interviews that he never sang in falsetto and rarely sang in head voice at all. He’s still performing today in his 60’s but has lost much of his higher range due to age but still has the rich baritone part of his voice.
