I left Donington in 1991 with 3 overriding memories. 1: The crowd going mental when Metallica came on, piss bottles flying everywhere. 2: Being absolutely deafened when the canons went off above the stage when AC/DC were on. 3: Seeing a band called Queensrÿche, I’d heard the name before but had never listened to anything they did and I just remember being absolutely blown away by them. They easily had the best sound out of all the bands that day. As soon as I got home, I bought there CD’s. Operation Mindcrime is without a doubt one of the best albums ever made.

Yes, I got hit in the face by a bottle of piss and it broke my glasses but still a great day.

I had never heard of Queensryche before, either. But my 1st experience took place in 1989. They opened for Metallica at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It was so indescribably beautiful. I could not belive what beautiful sounds my ears were hearing. I will never forget it. They did most of Mindcrime. And when they were finished, I could've gone home, without seeing Metallica's AJFA. WOW!

Monsters of Rock 1991 at Donington, England, consisted of only 5 bands - Black Crowes, Queensryche, Motley Crue, Metallica and AC/DC. It was a really good day.

Geoff Tate is the best singer ever, no fuckin doubt. He is not even comparable to Dickinson or Halford, no way. HAIL QUEENSRYCHE! Best band ever made.

@johnnyrobberts : Yes, Geoff was in training for the Tour de France. Seriously though, I was there that day --17th August 1991, and Queensyche sounded absolutely stunning. However, possibly my most enduring memory of the day, was that of Metallica's performance -- and "thousands" of plastic bottles of beer dregs and piss which were launched into the air for five-or-so minutes of their set. And speaking or beer, I felt somewhat worse-for-wear the next day . . . and the day after that.

This was a good day. Freezing at the end as DC came on. I went there to see Queensryche again. Crowd took some time to warm to them. Listening back to this it reminds you how how awesome they were. A brilliant day.

This was a really great day. I remember AC/DC were terrible though, 10 minute drum solos in the middle of every song. Queensryche and Metallica were great though.
